GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!

DEAR GOD, who suffered
torment, agony and death upon the Cross
to free our souls from the chains of iniquity;
protect and defend our troops. Guide them in
the performance of their duties. Strengthen
them to endure hardship, danger and depri-
vation in Your service. Let their efforts free
the people of Iraq and Afghanistan from the
chains of terror and slavery, foster a lasting
peace in the region, and bring all to a greater
share in Your Mercy.
Amen.

THE NAVY HYMN

Eternal Father, Strong to Save

The Marine Corps Verse:

Eternal Father, grant we pray
To all Marines both night and day,
The Courage, Honor, Strength and Skill
Their Land to serve, Thy Law Fulfill.
Be Thou the Shield forevermore
From every peril to the Corps!

This is the day which the LORD hath made;
we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalms 118:24(KJV)

Have a Blessed Lord’s Day!

In Dreams of Eramon

Oh, black the night over the ruins of Eramon
the crystal city where once peace reigned
Now a desolate pile where rage and pain
shattered harmony, now even peace is gone

Dust laden winds scours the shattered heart
moaning through the hollowed halls of stone
Their voices howl with the death of souls alone
when the final desolation was fated to start

Now the windows are like staring empty eyes
looking out over the devastated city of peace
The last visages of a noble race its time to cease
and so ever on the ruthless edge of time still flies

Spare grass, wind driven dust decorate the pile
with no voices raised in joy and no laughter now
For all that man has made, time makes all bow
and the empty ruins are but lost things in a file

I walk here, old and worn as the place itself
for I am the Keeper, I don’t remember why
Oft I weep for what was lost so long gone by
here where the past, an artifact on the shelf

No colorful boats ride the ancient canal now
no gaiety and love is found amid the stones
For this is a place of lost dreams and bones
for which no living heart cares somehow

Eramon, you were the jewel of the world then
your streets rang to the joy of life all around
The vandals and their rage took you down
as ever, those who build, see it all fall again

Time moves on and the past is but the past
echoes in the soul and hearts of those who feel
Those scribes who pen their dreams that reel
amid the ancient memories that fade so fast

~Welcome To Sunday At Amy's Place~

Jesus our Savior left heaven above,
Coming to earth as a Servant with love;
Laying aside all His glory, He came,
Giving His life, taking all of our blame.

Register Rock
We are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses. —Hebrews 12:1

Along the old Oregon Trail in Idaho there is a marker—a giant lava boulder known locally as Register Rock. It’s located in an area which was one of the favorite overnight camping areas for westbound immigrants who traveled the trail in the 19th century.

Travelers often inscribed their names on the rock as a memorial to their passage. Register Rock stands as a monument to their courage and tenacity.

When I think of Register Rock, I think of other pilgrims who have passed by us on their journey. Hebrews 11 lists some of those hardy souls—Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, and Samuel, to name a few.

But there are other more recent pilgrims: my mother and father, my fifth-grade Sunday school teacher Mrs. Lincoln, my youth leader John Richards, my mentors Ray Stedman and Howard Hendricks, and a host of others I could name. They may not have inscribed their names on rocks, but they’re written in my memory.

The author of Hebrews reminds us to remember “pilgrims” who have gone before us, especially those “who have spoken the Word of God” to us and to consider “the outcome of their conduct” (Heb. 13:7). And, most important, he encourages us to follow their faith.

The paths of leadership are trod
By those who fix their eyes on God;
Their steadfast spirit points the way
For us to follow day by day. —D. De Haan

People who follow Christ lead others in the right direction.

And God Created Dog...

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to “Where do pets come from?”

Adam and Eve said, “Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you anymore. We are lonesome here and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us.”

And God said, “No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.”

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve. And it was a good animal. And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, “Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.”

And God said, “No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG.”

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them. And they were comforted.

And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, “Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.”

And God said, “No problem! I will create for them a companion who will be with them forever and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration.”

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat’s eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings. And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased. And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn’t give a hoot one way or the other.
