I think the issue the article is trying to tackle is this -- HOW CHRISTIAN WERE THE FOUNDERS? Not whether Christianity played an important role in the founding of this nation.
In other words, did the founders INTEND for the USA to be a Christian nation, or did they intend the USA to be a nation of DIVERSIFIED religions ?
