I think a lot of nurseries make most of their money off of flower sales. That is the part of their business that is suffering.

The nurseries having problems sell ornamental plants (trees, shrubs, Rhododendrons, flowering perennials etc.). That's the kind of gardening I do. As you can see by this thread many people only think of gardening for food and that's why this part of the industry is in trouble. It truly unfortunate because Americans are premier plant breeders who specialize in varieties suitable for American growing zones.
