Classless hussy? The guy obviously took a big risk or thought something was going on that wasn’t.
Not that a proposal in front of a crowd has much class. I guess she could’ve said yes out loud and then whispered no in his ear to save him from the humiliation he set himself up for, but she may have been too surprised and angry for the spot he put her in.
I guess she should have married him to save him the embarrassment. From the look of things, it looks to me like he had discussed marriage with her before and she had some reservations. He was trying to get her to say “yes” to avoid public embarrassment. I can’t believe the folks her dogging the woman like that.
