Tiger Woods Returning To Golf At The Masters
CBS ^ | 3-16-10

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (CBS)

Tiger Woods said Tuesday he will return to golf next month at the Masters, ending a four-month hiatus brought on by a sex scandal that shattered his image as the gold standard in sports.

"The Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect," Woods said in a statement. "After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I'm ready to start my season at Augusta."

Adultery is still on the books in a lot of states. Not sure about Florida, though.

Bad idea. He should return to a tournament before the Masters. The hoopla needs to be celebrated on a different stage.

This is the best possible environment for him to come back.

I'm not a golfer, but I know a little about sports.

Can Tiger get into game shape after so long a layoff? Thoughts on where he might finish? My guess is that he'll be news, but not a serious threat.

The Masters is the classiest of all tournaments, and I doubt the club wants the kind of attention from the media that Tiger’s return is going to attract. Just shows that Tiger is still all about himself, and I bet he has not changed a bit. Four months away from golf during the winter, and a time when no majors were being played, is not much of a sacrifice on his part.

Yeah. Tiger probably is under some pressure from the PGA to get back asap.

I think it's funny how he's making this announcement. I am certain someone at Augusta will get word to him the Masters in an INVITATIONAL tournament.

I'd love to see him without an invite this year. That crowd does not want a circus atmosphere and are sans funnybone. Ask Gary McCord what kind of sense of humor they possess.

Given the fact their contract with CBS is year to year, I doubt they ostracize (I almost said "blackball" but realized the terrible pun) him.

The club will command top dollar for the ratings Tiger's return will bring.

I'm certain that eventually you'll discover that, as a past winner, Woods has a lifetime invitation to play in the Masters. That's only one of the many benefits awarded to a winner.

My father is a born and bred Augustan who is retired military. He’s sent two badges every year by the Masters (only has to pay $100 for both).

I’m going on Saturday with my older brother and I just might have to boo Tiger.

One year when existing the grounds, I was offered 5,000 for my badge. I couldn’t sell it though because it was Saturday and 2 members of my family were going on Sunday.

Plus, if I was caught selling my badge, my father could have been kicked of the masters’ list. If that had happened, my whole family would have killed me.

The Masters isn’t a PGA event but the Masters probably has some thing to say about it.

Everybody has serial numbers on their passes. If they misbehave, the passes are taken away for life. If a guest of a pass holder messes up, same thing. I doubt there will be any people acting up like that.

Yeah, but they wouldn’t dare revoke a badge for simply booing.
No way.

But, I could see them doing it if somebody said something really nasty.

It's a tradition, not a guarantee. You get a membership jacket, but you can't take it home. It has to stay on the premises. You also get an honorary membership to the club. Ask Tom Watson what happens when you show up at the club and want to play any other time than Masters week.

Until 1999, players winning a PGA event were invited to play in The Masters the following year. They changed that qualifier, then re-instated it for the 2008 tournament. It's a private club completely independent to the PGA.

If the decided to rescind the standing invitation (which I doubt), it's unlikely you'd hear any outcry from the field. Sports writers (other than CBS), sure.....but not the tour players.

He had gotten to be a pretty self-involved, unpleasant person.

Most narcissists and psychopaths are.

Will we like the new improved Tiger?

Michael Vick, OJ Simpson, Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant walk into a bar together...
