Thank you for the ping to this inspirational thread. The Founders are more alive to me than ever. I never tire of hearing the story of how the weather was on the side of General Washington and the Continentals, as well as how bullets and cannonballs could be flying all around him and not hit him.
I believe Washington also called for a day of prayer and fasting at a certain point during the American Revolution.
You are very welcome for the ping!
Yes, I believe Washington did do that!
And, yes, I never tire of reading of the lives of our founders and of all the ways God intervened in the forming of our nation, especially in the Revolutionary War events, and even more especially, in the life of George Washington!
Let’s hope and pray that with this remarkable change of events over in the Texas schoolbook commission in which the decision about the teaching of ALL of American history was made - and will include the role of God in our founding, for instance - that more and more American public school children will finally be taught these remarkable stories officially in their schools.
I remember when I learned about George Washington and God’s role in our founding events feeling so cheated because I had gone through public school in the 50’s and 60’s and NEVER WAS TAUGHT these things! I had to wait til in my 20’s when I started reading the “REAL” history of our nation on my own.
Great books are “The Light and the Glory” and “From Sea to Shining Sea” and many biographies of Washington, esp the one by Flexner and the one called “The Indispensable Man”.
