While downloading and installing (for my daughter) the free security suite offered by Cablevision to their subscribers, I noticed something which really annoyed me.
In setting up the configuration I chose to have the warning for objectionable sites activated. After I completed the configuration on all the aspects of the security suite I decided to go to the FR and see what was going on to begin the day. After typing the name in the search and punching go, I immediately was blocked by a pop up informing me that Free Rep was not available as it was a "hate site" and would require a password over ride. Amazed, I then entered "Democrat Underground" and after that "Daily Kos" and was allowed to navigate to those sites.
Those of you with Cablevision may want to do as I did and call customer service with a threat to cancel immediately all services if their parental control portion of the security suite is not immediately modified to remove FR as a "hate" site.
I hate it when they do that.
If this is the actual “Cablevision” corporation — and you HAVE their cablevision service — don’t you think it’s time you got Satellite TV?

some Kos-kiddie or DUmmie flexing their puny little muscles by setting up the filters that way. Not only should you make good your threat if they refuse, but a well-wored OpEd to the local papers urging readers to visit both FR and the other sites would be an eye-opener to parents or others, once they see the filth that passes for normal conversation there.
And don’t forget to tell Jim Thompson, too.

Well, really, what does “Free Republic” make you think of? I immediately think Adams, Jefferson, and Aryan Nation. Well something like that.

It probably is not Cablevision as much as it is the designer of the filtering software. If I were in that position, I’d talk to a manager on the tech side and ask them which vendor they use for filtering malicious websites.
Most have categories and each can be modified to make exceptions. Chances are the cable company doesn’t even know who sets up the filtering software. Find who is responsible for that and you can probably get it corrected.
Well, they’re right, sort of. I hate brussel sprouts. I hate the smell of burnt hair. I hate doing yard work in 100 degree plus weather w/double digit humidity.
