Ah, yes. Lee’s “Slavery’s good for them and God will get around to freeing them someday and it’s no use any of us try to do anything about it” letter. That’s what passes for an enlightened attitude in the old south.

Lincolns slavery forever amendment read as follows:
“No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State. Apparently Lincoln’s attitude was as enlightened as those of the old South.
