Katee Sackhoff on 24 and the nlikely thrill of being waterboarded [Spoiler warning]

[...]

Your character got waterboarded in last week’s episode. What was your reaction when you got that script? Well, when I first read it, I thought, “It’s about time they do something to this poor girl.” [Laughs] I was excited to do it because I’ve never been waterboarded, and I thought it would really be kind of fun. We tried to do it with a tube in my mouth, which just made it completely difficult, so I was like, “You guys are just gonna have to waterboard me.” They were like, “Are you sure you’re OK?” and I was like, “Oh yeah. Just waterboard me.”

Katee! Who wants to be waterboarded? It’s pretty crazy. Like, [the scene] was just basically me holding my breath. It was pretty intense. There was one time where I actually breathed in and I thought I was gonna die. I mean, it hurt so much, because your lungs just take in tons of water immediately. For some reason with that towel [over the face] being soaking wet, your lungs suck in water. It’s crazy.

I’ve heard that even if you think you can handle the physical torture of waterboarding, the level of panic it induces in your brain is the thing that really gets you. That’s the main thing, and not to mention that since the towel is full of water immediately, you can’t breathe through it. As soon as you breathe in, you take in water like you’re underwater.

And they did multiple takes of that? Oh, multiple. Yes. All day. [Laughs]

Got into a side discussion on another thread, and I thought maybe a dedicated thread was more appropriate. It seems Katee Sackhoff was actually waterboarded for some of her scenes on 24 ... so if an American actress can do for a while, is it really too much for a terrorist to endure?

There are some spoilers in the interview, for those that are behind on 24.

Thanks for posting.. and thanks for the REASON for posting.

As to Jack shooting her... Earlier I had great hopes that Chloe was going to be the one to kill her.

Yeah — she was a bit of a jerk. Actually ... Jack didn’t waterboard her, though. Jack saved her from the waterboarders, got the information he needed, then he shot her. Jack’s in a bit of a bad mood.

Actually ... I kinda figured the ex-fiance would end up blowing her head off.

That was a great scene. I was convinced that the waterboarding was real and now I know why - it was, LOL.

I’m really going to miss 24 next year. I’ve enjoyed this show and hope they do a movie in the future. (That might make a good 007 like series, heheh.)

He sure had better cause than Jack. Jack hogs all the fun. lol

I was a little surprised actually. This was the most clear cut cold blooded murder Jack has ever committed. Unless I missed one in the season that LA got nuked. I missed that one.

Jack offed a few other unarmed bad guys to avenge a fallen friends/ loved ones ...

Ssn 1 ... Dennis Hopper (whatever his name was). Jack thought Kim was dead and shot him unarmed for the percieved death of his daughter. Pumped a whole clip into the guy.

Ssn 3 ... Nina Myers. She had no further information to offer, and was responsible for murdering his wife. Bang.

Ssn 5 ... Trigger man for David Palmer assassination, bombed Michelle Desslers car. The guy gave Jack the information he needed in exchange for transport to a hospital. Jack shot him in the head.

Ssn 5 ... Christopher Henderson. Responsible for the (somewhat overstated) death of Tony. Henderson helped raid a submarine and was out of ammo, and Jack executed him.

The execution of Dana Walsh was not quite unprecedented. That being said ... I’m thinking there’s going to be a 4-hour bloodbath through the end of this series. According to the preview, the Renee trigger-man is going to get the working end of a blowtorch.

LOL I don't recall #5 at all and the circumstances of the others are a little hazy now. I guess I'll have to rewatch the series. I just recall that there was a slim, very slim, justification in most of those cases. I couldn't create one for Dana no matter how much I stretched it.

A reason did occur to me though and it let's Jack off the hook for taking Cole's satisfaction away. Jack could see from his own long experience that it would save Cole a lot of grief in the long run if Dana just ceased to exist. Not a justification but the best I could do for an excuse.

Then again maybe it was just the bullet wound, cracked ribs and sundry deep bruises irritating him and Dana's smart mouth was the last straw. I know I wanted to shoot her. LOL

I think he blamed her, among others, for the death of Renee. That’s kinda why I figure its going to be a bloodbath.

If and when he figures out Logan’s was involved in Renee’s death (added to Palmer, Michelle and Tony’s first death) ... he’s gonna lose it big time. He barely restrained himself from killing Logan on Day 5. Bang.

Thanks for posting this, she sounds like a p*sser, really.

The end of that episode was good and really a shock.

She’s a very good actress, I’m sure we’ll see more of her.

She plays evil great and she was good in the bits I saw of her in Battlestar Gallactica

It wasn’t a silent clock at the end.So is she dead or as the Black Knight would say “Just a flesh wound”?

This was the most clear cut cold blooded murder Jack has ever committed.

There was a guy in season 2(?) who was some minor thug they brought in from prison to question. Jack killed him and cut off his head, just to have a bargaining chip to convince another bad guy that Jack was a bad dude.

As we watched that scene we wondered if she was indeed being waterboarded.

That guy was a child molester who got a full pardon for information on the terrorist group CTU wanted into. Jack just killed him to get in with the group himself. It was pretty awesome.
