Yes, I’m quite familiar with the etymology, and if I weren’t, the initial post would have taught me. My point was that it’s a completely useless word, since it merely expands “huge” into 4 or 5 syllables and a few really difficult phoneme transitions, without really adding meaning. Why is Jonathan Swift that references to his stories are counted as words? Why is “Brobdinganian” for “huge” any more correct that “Sauronic” for “evil?” Why shouldn’t I call Europe’s response to Islam “Theodenic?”

The only difference is the pretense of being literary. It’s positively Allthingsconsideredly; downright Sundaytimesian.

did you happen to see THIS? we were all AGHAST as soon as bill said it. it was like OMG, he did NOT just say that to this black guy! i think bill realized almost immediately that he should NOT have said it and looked stricken and then tried to cover over it. i know he will NEVER take a single viewer letter about it, bc he wants it forgotten!

Toomey responds

“If this explanation is as innocent as it looks, I sure don’t know why it took three months to say so. The White House and Congressman Sestak should have been forthcoming a lot sooner. As I’ve said many times, this job offer issue is not my focus, and it’s not where Pennsylvanians want the focus of the campaign to be.

"The job offer that is most important to me is the job offer that is extended to unemployed Pennsylvanians trying to support their families. I want to be discussing key issues like the bailouts, which Joe Sestak has strongly supported and I’ve strongly opposed; the national health care disaster, which Joe Sestak strongly supports and I oppose; and the massive runaway spending in Washington, which he supports and I oppose. As far as I’m concerned, I would rather pursue those topics than any insider deal between Congressman Sestak and the White House.”

The ad this fall "Sestak is more concerned with his job than yours"

while sestak did nothing wrong, doesn’t mean that this can’t be used against him.

I was working at Fort Hood, living in the Houston area, and just not wanting to be there. I found the pub - which was in the mall (seriously). George Schott was the owner, and just a peach of a man. $2.00 Killian’s Irish Red, and typically $4.00 or so Guinness (Imperial). Great food, just fantastic food. Lots of fun, music, darts, and just a great fun place. I heard that George got recalled by the Canadian Military (I believe he was a Major), and had to close the place.

If Toomey lets this go, hes a douche. Period.

The Ad should be...

“In March Joe Stesak Claimed that he was offered a job by the White House.....

In May, after the White House called his brother, the campaign manager, he says it was an unpaid advisory position

Job...Unpaid?

Apparently Joe Stesak doesn’t even know what a job is....

If he’s telling the truth....

IS this someone we want in Washington....
Let’s end politics as usual...
Vote for Pat Toomey for Senate”

Are you kidding? You mean he did nothing wrong before Today.

Now he is a co-conspirator.

FWIW, I think this is a fine literary word. It might even be a review word since we have no problem bringing good ones around again. And if someone has the Brobdingnagian brass to complain about it, maybe they should grumble softly to themselves instead of criticizing someone who put forth the effort to host the thread. I’m just saying...

You may not get to keep him for four years after all. That kind of prowess is in dire need, nationally. I love the gov.

as i recall the soother used it previously. Dangus, perhaps you are unfamiliar with our thread but we have been around for about 10 years on FR, doing our word thang. we are interested in words, no matter how many syllables, interesting words and boring words. it’s what we do : )
