It disqualifies you from any position requiring a security clearance.

Maybe at one time, but not anymore. As I mentioned in my post, I was given a "secret" clearance with two recent misdemeanor convictions. It may be different with the "higher" clearances. I was told the requirements to get a security clearance were really loosened during the Clinton administration and there is not much that automatically disqualifies you anymore as long as you are honest on your SF-76.

You are correct.

A good many of our best Pilots in the Air Force, as an example, get DUI’s and DWI’s.
