It appears that the top hat on the BP well has been blown off. It also appears that they riser has been further damaged. Except for the flow to the ship Q4000, the flow from the well is currently unabated.
they’re talking about it on the Oil Drum, no conclusions as of yet, but they haven’t dismissed it out of hand. This is where a narrator, a la NASA mission control, would really come in handy.
Thus far, BP has said nothing about this. The discussion at The Oil Drum parallels what I posted.

The oil is not just coming through the top hole either, it’s coming up from the side of the well head as well...erosion???

Saw on Drudge this morning that the government has shut down the dredging for the berms. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife department wants them to move the dredging two miles farther out. Unbelievable!!
Rumor mill says the pressure when they hit they hit the reservoir might have been as high as 70 to 100 thousand psi, which no-one in the industry is prepared to deal with.

I saw a Time article at the eye doctor yesterday, which listed the Top Ten, at faults, responsible for this diseaster. After the BP folks, I was surprised to see Obama listed in Position #7 or 8, right after Bush and Cheney listed at 5/6. Because they were “In bed” with oil companies. I wanted to burn the page...
