Police investigated Big Ben foursome for golf pee

Police in Dublin, Ohio, today confirmed they investigated a complaint that a member of a golfing foursome that included Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was caught urinating behind a tree bordering the prestigious Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Dublin police said they did not issue any citations. The female property owner didn't want to press charges. Roethlisberger was not the person seen urinating Thursday afternoon between the 17th and 18th holes and the country club agreed to handle the matter by reminding members to use restrooms, according to the police.

"We received a call that said a member of the party urinated on private property," said Dublin police spokesman David Ball. "We spoke to the golf course and they agreed to discuss this issue internally with their members."

Idiots. Everyone knows you’re supposed to pee in the water hazards. And leave the sand traps for the feral cats.

Ok, show of hands. How many dudes here have taken a leak on a golf course? Thought so.

You cant' play a 4some of 18 holes with a cooler full of beer and somebody NOT drain the main vein at some point.

There must be no other unsolved crimes in the Dublin area. As a part-time metro-Columbus resident, I find that VERY hard to believe.

Holey moley. He was in a foursome and someone, not him, pees on a tree on a golf course. And it's in the paper. Tell me again why newspapers are better than blogs.

Yeah, because police in central Ohio (which is trying to beat Cleveland in the race to the bottom ie becoming Ohio’s Detroit) have nothing better to do.

Freaking ridiculous.

But at least they aren’t executing heros for the crime of having a CCW permit and carrying in a Costco ala Las Vegas thugcops.

PS I know some CPD, Dublin PD, and other central Ohio PD. A couple thugcops, but the vast majority are just good cops. Sure they think this is ridiculous, too.

"A" leak?

You are younger than 60 aren't you?

Some people want to shoot their age for a golf score.

I would like to card a number close to how many pit stops I make.

My 4-some accuses me of "marking" my territory.

This is ridiculous. As long as you are discreet, who cares. On the other hand, this is extremely discriminatory because God did not equip the fairer of the sex with such a handy gadget and playing on courses void of large trees creates a definite handicap on occasion!

It happens, but the issue here is that it was done on the private property of a home bordering the golf course.

Just wait until cap and trade passes, requiring businesses to obtain Federal Permits for the discharge of carbon containing gasses. The price of a plate of sauerkraut and sausage, a serving of refried beans, or a piece of sweet potato pie, will sky rocket.

First off, I think its ridiculous that someone called the cops because a golfer was relieving themselves....but...

I’m not sure how you come off blaming the cops on this. It says ‘someone called in a complaint’. So obviously the police had to at least show up, as (I would hope) the police are obligated to at least show up and take a report or (as the story says) investigate the incident.

And then the story includes the detail that the police (appropriately, you would agree?) took no action. Why would the police be blamed for anything in this instance?

As for Columbus racing Cleveland to the bottom? Come on. Cleveland has a 50 year head start on that race. And besides, Toledo not only has that title, they actually wanted to be the Detroit of Ohio.

LOL I am younger than 60, but depending on the number of beers I have while at the driving range...I may could give you a run for your money certain days! LOL

That may be the case, but calling the cops I think was overboard. Take it up with the golf course or confront the golfers themselves. Maybe put up a sign saying people caught peeing on property will be subject to laughter and ridicule by a gaggle of school age girls. Any of those methods would have been better than calling the cops IMHO.

Hell, if he knew it was a famous NFL player that was doing the deed he might have been out there trying to get an autograph.

OK. I read that but I took your comments in the context that the “good cops” thought the acting Dublin police were ridiculous, not the person who called the cops. Thanks for clarifying. Cops have been taking a beating here on FR as of late. I have two relatives who are active police and they are phenomenal people.
