Well, that may be true.

God forbid common sense would prevail though. Huh?

Yeah, I see them outside gyms around here too.

And while handicapped people very well may be going to the gym, if they are interested in excercise anyway, can’t they walk a few more feet?

“The Florida Building Commission says it turned down the city’s request for a waiver because it wouldn’t cost more than 20 percent of the construction job to make the building accessible to the disabled.”

Oh, I get it!

If the idiotic state requirment is NOT over 20% of the ENTIRE construction cost, then it MUST happen!

Well when unions are involved, it will exceed that but notice how FUZZY they are on the COST. When it becomes apparant that it will EXCEED 20%, as they are builiding it, you know what will happen.

They’ll say, “We’ve already started it.”

“We need to finish it and eat the cost.”

” think they said the cost of the chair lift would be ~$18k.

And I think you know the answers to the rest of your questions. :) “

Ah but that was YEARS AGO!

“It’s not clear yet exactly how much the lift will cost. Dunbar recalled that, YEARS ago, the city also was ordered to install a wheelchair lift for the home dugout at Bright House Field, where the Philadelphia Phillies have their spring training.

That one cost $18,000.

“It has sat unused for seven years,” Dunbar said.”

It has NEVER been USED too!

What a waste!

Signs are a taxpayer abusing comedy industry of its own. There is a little grassy area about half a block long in Bethesda close to where I live with about three dozen traffic signs on it.

The loading dock at NOAA’s Suitland facility had a sign on the wall saying that the sign is under electronic surveillance. Indeed, it had a fixed CCTV camera in the ceiling pointed at the sign. But not at the door about 20’ to the right.

I’ve seen braille signs outside pilot’s lounges in several airports. Right outside our office, halfway down the corridor there is a braille sign on the wall. Have no idea what it says, or how a blind person could know it is there for it to be of any value.

Well, it does tell him that its not a restroom. Letting the blind person know he's in the wrong place might be useful, too.

Not all handicapped are in wheelchairs

Wheelchairs-accessible for lifeguard station make as much sense as demanding braille billboards

In my world those who would mandate such stupidity would be required to pay for it out of their own pockets and not force others to fund it.

There is a limit to everything except stupidity.

A number of years ago I was on the City Design Review Committee and a proposed indoor skateboarding facility failed to be built because...

You guessed it.

No one seems aware that from the beginning of our Country's history, there have been continuous examples of states or groups ignoring federal mandates. Successfully.

We have become a nation of criminals -- and wimps. Predator and prey.
Politician and citizen.
