The Santa Cruz County Fair Board of Directors "made a business decision that the benefits didn't outweigh the risks," said Steve Stagnaro, a board spokesman.

The board was also concerned over plans by a group called Stop the Rodeo to picket the fair in September. "The idea that this would get in the way of us having a simple, wholesome, healthy, happy event — well, it wasn't time to fight this battle," Stagnaro said.

Stagnaro, what a wimp, what a freakin' liberal. Read more at the link for an encapsulation of all that is going wrong with our country at this point in time.

Hey California, hand in your cojones to the nearest animal rights activist, its clear you don’t know what they are for. Sad to see a once great state become a gelding. Shoosh, I remember when it was the cutting edge of newness and freedom. Now, not so much.

Are there as many people in favor of this event as opposed? If so, let the loons picket. Attend anyway. There is as much negative publicity around caving to these extremists as there is in opposing them. Fight the fight or get out of the ring!

Once California is annexed back to Mexico, those PETA bitches will really lose their minds. Our peaceful, harmonious, southern neighbors aren't exactly known for their kindness to the animal kingdom. Bullfights in the LA Coliseum!!! More cows, we love Cows!!!

When WILL it be time, Missus Stagnaro? You cave in to these freaks just ONCE, and you might as well discontinue the whole damned thing. They'll never be happy and they'll never leave you alone until you're living in a cardboard box in some 3rd-world hell-hole.

What an appalling article.

The namby-pamby wimps are taking over. It’s time to repeal the laws that give those suckers a threat to hold over decent people.

All the “violence” I’ve ever seen in a rodeo is done to the cowboys BY the animals !

which was aimed at raising money for children's activities and organizations.

If the proceeds went to NORML or Move On, the hippies would suddenly discover that rodeo is totally way cool.

That’s too bad.

I enjoy a good rodeo.

Those bulls are treated like pampered celebrities. I consider them animal athletes

“…Sheriff’s Department event…”

What they could not handle the event, I could only guess this interfered with their latte and soy milk breaks…

What a bunch of pussys and girly men which squeal like little bitches when they are confronted with such low life prima-donnas. Now you can come to the understanding why America is submissive to tyranny.

“Bullfights in the LA Coliseum!!!”

I am thinking bullfights would certainly outdraw the Raiders. Guess Al Davis figured that one out too.

Exactly. These Santa Cruz Stop the Rodeo weenie pantywaists have never been to, or even seen on TV, a real rodeo. They were told it is "violent" and assumed the poor little animals are tortured. Maybe they would like to hug or pet one of these bulls, just so everyone can feel better.

At least Livermore, in Alameda County, still has its annual rodeo.

Years ago I made a remark to someone visiting here from another country, something about “now that he was living in a free country”... He laughed at me. “You think you’re more free than me?”

What wusses! Just arrest the protesters if they do anything or go anywhere they shouldn’t - just like the ones at Notre Dame.

Yeah, every bull has a name and a “rep” and probably an entourage... lol.

Anyway, I wonder if the libbies were told that (a lot of) black cowboys exist and also participate in these rodeos what their reaction would be??

First the rodeo, then the 4-H exhibits.

What a chump.
