To start with, what they call methamphetamine could either be prescription or street crystal. As far as what they are calling opiates, they are less likely to be real opiates than synthetic opiates like Hydrocodone.
So practically speaking, what they are talking about might be as little as taking some uppers for breakfast, and downers before bed. But in her case, I doubt it.
However, she also drinks alcohol to excess, and frequently, and that changes the equation considerably.
Actually, I think Adderal/Ritalin is methylphenidate. It’s been about 6 years since I did my thesis, but otherwise you are absolutely right.
The same qualities that make a person talented in arts are now symptoms of ADD. Things such as daydreaming are now symptoms. So a kid ends up taking Adderal or Ritalin. Then the mom goes to the doctor and says “My kid is all jumpy and can’t sleep.” So the doctor prescribes the kid with meds to help the child sleep. Then the kid ends up on prozac and Xanax which are not supposed to be prescribed for kids due to their tendency to cause suicidal ideation in children, and then the kids start hearing voices telling them to hurt themselves or others because the drug cocktails they are on are messing up their poor little heads, so the kids end up on anti-psychotic meds and by the time they graduate, you’ve got a messed up little person whose only coping skill is to self-medicate with whatever they can get their hands on because they’ve learned one thing: Take a drugs, that makes it all better”
Meth addiction is the least likely of all the drug addictions to be recovered from. Plus, studies show that meth, even one hit, can cause permanent brain damage that is never recovered from, even if the person happens to stop drugging/boozing.
This damage is particularly harmful the earlier in life the drug is taken. The brain is not fully developed until well after adolescence. Drug use of any kind during adolescence, but particularly meth, physically damages the brain AND perverts its natural development.

Adderall XR, a widely used drug for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, was pulled off the market in Canada after regulators linked the drug to 20 sudden deaths and 12 strokes. Fourteen of the deaths and two of the 12 strokes were in children.
The adverse reactions were not associated with overdose, misuse or abuse of Adderall XR, Canadian regulators said.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a public health advisory to alert providers to the withdrawal. But the agency also said it had evaluated the same reports as Canadian regulators and did not think the data warranted pulling the drug from the U.S. market.

Lindsay Lohan leaving jail early to address her methy behavior
Time also flies when you’re a celebrity in an overcrowded prison, because Lindsay’s 90-day jail sentence looks likely to end as soon as August 1.
KTLA reports the actress will walk free after a mere 13 days in her Lynwood, California, pokey. And when she’s done, there’s just 24 hours for her to check into rehab for her reported addiction to — wait for it — meth!
Don’t let that apparently full set of teeth fool you. TMZ reveals that Linsday will receive treatment for her methamphetamine addiction and bipolar disorder at the Morningside Recovery in Newport Beach.
And maybe it’s time. Lindsay’s brief tenure in jail hasn’t been without its share of drama. The inmate and the prison have come under fire for reported preferential treatment, including lenient visitors’ hours, specialty food deliveries and, you know, getting to leave really early.
People who have spiraled to full-blown meth addiction have a long, hard road ahead. That stuff alters brain chemistry possibly more than any other illegal drug. Addicts may spend months in prison detoxing and thinking of nothing more than getting high the moment they're released, and many often make a beeline straight from jail to their meth dealer.

Upon release, the actress has been ordered to go directly to a rehab center, a source tells PEOPLE, reportedly Morningside Recovery in Orange County, Calif., a high-end residential facility. And while Chapman Holley tells PEOPLE Lohan’s release is “up to the sheriff,” where she heads next is not. “It’s up to the judge,” Chapman Holley says, reiterating, “I’m hoping she will have time to spend with her family before she goes to rehab. She is trying to comply with the court’s orders, but she should be able to have 24 hours at home.”
Once in rehab, Lohan won’t be free to come and go as she pleases and is expected to adhere to a strict regimen of a 7 a.m. wake-up time, chores, counseling sessions and curfew, although recreational activities like surfing, snorkeling, meditation and yoga are offered for some patients at Morningside. It’s unclear if the actress will be assigned a round-the-clock chaperone.
If the actress violates any rules, the court could be notified and the judge could potentially throw her back in jail for violating probation, legal experts say. She likely will be footing the bill for her own treatment, which is estimated to be approximately $10,000 to $15,000 a month, experts add.
Once Lohan completes her three-month stint in rehab, she’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing until August 2011, when her probation term ends. The actress is allowed to take certain prescription medications, however.

Yes, you're clearly right. I went to law school rather than medical school because any word containing more than 10 letters may as well be Greek to me.
I also agree about the INSANELY liberal distribution of these phycho-stimulitve drugs and it's tragic result in far too many children. There needs to be a serious national discussion about drugging our children. I'm not sure what the answer is, but we're just about to the point where the first "drug generation" is entering their mid to late 20s, and these chickens are going to start coming home to roost.

Lindsay Lohan’s former fellow inmate and “Pretty Wild” reality star Alexis Neiers said she could hear the actress break down when she was put behind bars last week.
“Crying. [Lindsay] was crying,” Neiers, who finished her 30-day jail term at the Century Regional Detention Facility, in Lynwood, Calif., for pleading no contest to burglarizing Orlando Bloom’s home, told E! Online. “I could hear her.”
According to Neiers, Lohan’s first few days in jail were the most difficult.
“I could start hearing like what was going on in there, I tried to just, really just keep to myself and the last thing I really want to hear, you know, when you’re trying to be so strong and just get through the day. I mean, the days are so long in there, you’re woken up at 5:30,” Neiers explained. “She was crying. She was talking to deputies and, you know, just trying to — I couldn’t really like make it out, but from what I saw the first day, I mean, she was lying in there and just trying to like calm down.”

Women are allowed to be this way, for one it is in their makeup. Somedays you can talk to them on the phone, and they are real cheery and then they come home and it is a different woman.
