Thanks cuz and all who have replied.
You’ve actually hit upon my main concern, that using Paypal
will deter people from subscribing to my service. They do accept the major credit cards, but it sure looks like they
will force buyers to create a PayPal account if/when they
make a payment.
Ebay and Paypal are one in the same. You pay fees to Ebay then pay fees to Paypal on the same purchase, quite the racket they have going on. Ebay disputes get dumped on Paypal eventually.
Nice features of Paypal are, you can transfer funds (like a wire) between other Paypal users just by using email addresses. Make up your own transactions and receipts and have a record of it online. Take deposits and return them.
Paypal has some convenient shipping and handling but I find Fed-Ex is usually more competitive even with Paypal price breaks using UPS and USPS.
Cash sitting in your Paypal account will collect some type of money market interest.
Used to be no toll free number to call when problems arise, I don’t know about that lately. I would like to see more competition in pay services like if Amazon would expand their pay services.
A credit card transaction works just as well, I guess you are paying for convenience and for a referee during transactions with Paypal even though most any credit card companies will do the same thing for you.
I love PayPal.
They’re very prompt in answering if you have a question too.
That's quite true; I've had one incident in which the buyer wasn't satisfied with what I sold him, and PayPal did take his side, freezing the amount that I got from him. We were able to come to an understanding, and they freed the money back up. Overall, no complaints.'
In any case, they are as you said the 800 lb. gorilla...no choice but to use them if you're on Ebay.
As long as you stay politically correct and go unnoticed. Pam Geller of the Atlas Shurgsblog had Paypal cut her off due to her politics. When the heat go too hot for PayPal they backtracked but she found a PayPal competitor to use.

I suspect many more have lost sales by not accepting PayPal.

That may very well be true, which is why I made the distinction of sellers that ONLY accept paypal.
I have made purchases from sellers that accept other credit card sales as well as paypal, but if the seller ONLY accepts paypal, I'll look elsewhere.
I’ve been using PP since it was created and have never, ever, ever had any problem at all with them. And that includes an eBay Fraud Claim resolution.
Thanks Sam and to all who took the time and effort to respond. You’ve given me a great deal of food for thought.
I agree with you. As a buyer, I want to pay with the simplicity of PayPal. If I have to type in all my personal info, shipping address, and bank card info every time that I want to buy something, I just move on to a site that takes PayPal, one quick easy login and it’s paid for and over.
I have heard that for a while they were a company with some unethical practices but that things straightened out after they were bought by Ebay. I have had no problem using them for payments. Other than having to remember my Paypal login, it’s easy and convenient. I have not used Paypal for any large payments.
Um, why not just accept credit cards? Far easier for you and your customers. Paypal is expensive too. From tyhe comments here, it sounds like you would incur unnecessary busainess risk with paypal. Not sure it makes sense outside small time sellers on ebay.
Not true. The “vig” is .029%, plus a flat $.30 fee per transaction. The sender obviously is not charged a fee. As for the 21 day wait, that only happens in rare cases where a buyer has disputed a transaction, or where an account has been hijacked—that sort of thing. I have used PayPal for almost 4000 transactions, and I’ve never had a single problem with it, and they’ve never made me wait for my money.
The holding of payments I only knew about secondhand but it happened to quite a few people I knew. Almost all of it was fishing tackle, most of it in the $200.00/$300.00 range.
I received about 1500 PP payments over 6 years. I preferred USPS money orders.
Were you doing a lot of international transactions? The rate for those is a bit higher, but here is PayPal's current fee schedule:
Purchase payments received (monthly) | Fee per transaction |
$0.00 USD - $3,000.00 USD | 2.9% + $0.30 USD |
$3,000.01 USD - $10,000.00 USD | 2.5% + $0.30 USD |
$10,000.01 USD - $100,000.00 USD | 2.2% + $0.30 USD |
> $100,000.00 USD | 1.9% + $0.30 USD |
I tried using it in the past, I think it’s a pain in the ass, and if an online vendor doesn’t offer credit cards as well, I find a different vendor.
No international transactions whatsoever! Paypal pretended to have seller protection out of the U.S. but in reality it was none existent. No confirmed addresses!
more common as of late, for sure. they need to find a way to can people who leave retaliatory feedback. Nobody can be honest about a dirtbag anymore, since they will issue retaliatory negative feedback and be back a month later under new user ID.
