WOW ! Did I Just Have a TERRIBLE Cigar! (Complete Vanity!)
ML/NJ

Posted on 09/02/2010 4:05:30 PM PDT by ml/nj

Someone gave me an Acid Kuba Maduro yesterday. So I tried it this afternoon. I almost never put out cigars, but I put this one out within five minutes. That was nearly an hour ago and I still have a terrible taste in my mouth which has survived a few potato chips and some Bourbon.

Not an Acid cigar fan here. They smell and taste like some chick poured cologne all over them.

Try a nice Cain F 660 ligero.
That should get the taste out of your mouth.

I've never even heard of Acid cigars, but by the name alone, I'd be disinclined to try one.

I've always had success with the Cuesta-Rey 1884. Not expensive, but not cheap, just a good, mellow smoke. I've never put one out!

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

You are so right! I was given a box of Acid cigars once. They were so godawful bad I couldn’t finish them. They smelled like something you’d find in a cedar chest. For some reason (dumb luck) I didn’t put them in my humidor. Would have ruined a cargo of Padron Aniversarios.

I detest flavored cigars. Acid is the worst. If you truly love cigars, then choose one that features natural tobacco, properly fermented and constructed with long-leaf filler and a Maduro or a well-aged Connecticut shade wrapper. Try a Padron 5000, Oliva V, Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve, Arturo Fuente Hemingway, or a Padilla Signature 1932.

I once was looking for revenge on a cigar smoker, so asked a store owner for his advice on the most “full bodied” cigar he had, after explaining why. He pulled out a box of Honduran Carl Upmann, or really *counterfeit* Carl Upmann.

He said a few puffs of one of these was like sucking on a hole in a burning car tire.

I gave up smoking for about 6 months.

Today I went to my humidor pulled out a Partagas Super Partagas, which was my regular smoke.

I started to sweat and had to sit down. The nicotine rush was just a little too much.

Bloody Mary here. Quit smoking 10 years ago. Another 20 to go before I take it back up again.

Just fire up an Opus #2, pour three fingers of a good single malt or a glass of Fonseca Port and get the following engraved on your torch:

NEVER ACCEPT ACID CIGARS EVEN ON A DARE.

Repeat part 1 until taste or mind is gone.

We all have things we like. I've never been impressed by the Fuentes except maybe the Opus-Xs, and I'm not sure they come from the same organization. (Not that I would turn down a free Fuente, mind you.)

As for this Acid thing, I belong to a club and we have a dinner once a month. The club gives out a cigar as you enter the dining room. Last night it was a choice of this Acid thing and a Fonseca, which I knew I had had and it wasn't memorable. It had nothing to do with price. I don't know what these cost. (BTW, at the dinner there is always a cigar presenter who gives out samples. Last night it was a Rocky Patel rep. Cute, but not Rocky. The last time they were the presenter, Rocky was there himself and stayed 'til four in the morning.)

As for price, I find plenty of good stuff for two dollars a stick or so. Try a box of the JR GENUINE PRE-EMBARGO C. C. EDICION LIMITADA CIGARS Gorditos. (Has to be the Gorditos!) Well made, good taste. (In fact a friend who I introduced to these saw my initial post here and called to suggest that I pitch the Bourbon and smoke one of these instead to get rid of the Acid taste.)

What’s interesting is that high end Dominican and Hondoran cigars are now getting as expensive as Habanos S.A. prices.

A box of Opus X or Ashton VSG are about as expensive as a box of Cohibas or Bolivars from Gerard Pere et Fils in Geneva.
