T-Shirt-Shooting A10 Warthog Monster Truck Is Everything Right With America

The Air Force's latest recruiting tool is a Cadillac Escalade-bodied monster truck designed to look like an A10-C Thunderbolt Warthog, complete with a t-shirt-shooting Gatling gun. Wasteful? Yes. Overbuilt? Yes. Awesome? Oh hell yes. God Bless the U.S. Air Force.

Amazing that the USAF had to have the A-10 forced down it’s throat under threat of the Army taking over the CAS mission, and 20 years ago (before Desert Storm) was on the verge of putting the entire fleet out to pasture ...

Now it’s proudly being used as a recruiting tool.

Let's see - militaristic? Check. Patriotic? Check. Appeals to kids? Check. Crappy gas mileage? Check.

A pure piss-off-liberal-moonbats set of wheels.

I wonder what its NSN is, and if it’s available through SBSS.

“To again paraphrase John Oliver: Could China make a t-shirt-firing, steroidal monster truck? Yeah. But they’d never think to, and that’s why America has nothing to worry about it.”

OO-RAH!

The warthog is my new favorite kiling machine.

I saw one at an airshow in Tucson, AZ and it is amazing- it seems to float and defy gravity, making less noise than any jet aircraft I ever saw.

The diaper-heads are scared to death of them.

Many years ago before England AFB was closed, the A10’s were a common sight above my rural and fairly isolated property. I would always wave and salute them. As they were normally just above the tree tops, I was easy to spot. Shortly before the base closed, one of them came by, circled around a few times and gave my family our own personal show. Ultra cool. Thank you to the pilot, whoever you were.

warthog

This might be better as a recruiting poster, except it's UN-PC:-). We had something similar silk-screened onto T-shirts when I was a young airman in England. We could only wear them for about a week before they were banned. The Brits loved it. Kudos to the PA ANG....

They just weren't sexy enough for all the AF fighter jocks.

Bombers were tolerated only because we still had the Cold War and had to have a nuclear mission. Desert Storm was enough reality to make them keep the Warthog but as we all know once the fighter jocks took over the entire ball of wax when SAC was disbanded they promptly destroyed the bomber fleet and basically limited the careers of the bomber crews.

I always said the fighter types took too many Gs without 100% oxygen and thus didn't have enough brain cells left to understand the real world and what military deterrence was all about.

A-10 Warthog

Ugly, but terribly effective

How hot does the tail get, being situated directly behind and below the jet exhausts?

Not sure.

From wiki:

“If the APU has started successfuly you should see the EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) rapidly climb to 800/900°C and then stabilize when the RPMs reach 60%. “

Sound like operating temp is below 800 deg. C. Sounds pretty hot to me. It is not stealthy, so heat signature is there.

I remember those times before Desert Storm, reading articles and watching news shows about how the Air Force was phasing out the A-10 and thinking what a bunch of idiots they must be. Desert Storm did change all that.

I had a T-Shirt I bought at Incirlik AFB the summer after Desert Storm. It showed an A-10 firing at a guy on a camel. It read “whispering death” on top and “you can run, but you will only die tired” on the bottom. Still have it packed away somewhere.
