Yep. The show become more about him as it progressed. I know for a fact Wayne Rogers left because Alan Alda was trying to gain more control over the show.
Two more Twilight ZOnes- the one where the old man goes hunting with his dog, and they both die and go to heaven... and the one where the old teacher sees the ghosts of all the boys he taught- some heroes in war... Both beautiful examples of the best TV can be, IMO.

46 posts before Laugh-In was mentioned. There would be no SNL if it were not for Laugh-In.
SNL is tame and mild compared to the edgy (for the time) skits that Laugh-In had.

That one was called “Changing of the Guard” and starred none other than the late, great Donald Pleasance. Great episode.
The Milton Berle Show, Your Show of Shows, The Phil Silvers Show, The Andy Griffith Show (before he sold out to Obamacare), Mission Impossible.
I quit watching TV when it went digital, so I’m not up on any new shows.
Alot of good shows have been mentioned, but nobody mentioned “That 70’s show”.
It was one of the best comedy TV shows ever produced imo.
As I grew up with TV imo it got worse as I got older.
I was actually a wee kid “guest” on the “Howdy Doody show” as a birthday present way back then.
The first color TV in the hood was a meeting place for the neighborhood kids. The screen was round and it was in a cabinet the size of an aircraft carrier. BUT it was COLOR! So what if the people who got near the edge of the screen looked like you do in fun house mirrors? It was COLOR!

Gunsmoke should definitely be near the top of the list.
I belive Gunsmoke is still the TV series with more episodes than any other.
Another show that should be on the Top 10?
The Burns and Allen TV show.
Why? It was a first with breaking the fourth wall.
Cutting edge and groundbreaking. Plus Burns and Allen are/were classic. Few can compare to them.

I’ve never seen a single episode of Seinfeld, Cheers or Friends. I’ve seen a couple of 1 or 2 minutes of each and concluded I haven’t missed much.

Worked with a woman in Iraq who suffered a stress fracture in her foot and walked with a significant limp. I passed her in the hall and said "Marshall Dillon, Marshall Dillon". She busted out laughing then reminded me that there were only a few in our office who would understand that...
