Can anybody think of one movie remake which was better than the original?

idunno. i was “my man godfrey,” the one with Carol Lombard, which was excellent; it is said to be remake of something, but I didn’t see that something. So, for me, the remake was better than the original, by default.

I was my man Godfrey should, obviously, be I saw My Man Godfrey.

If the original is deemed a ‘classic’, it is difficult for any remake to attain the same stature.
No matter how many times a Shakespearian play is rewritten for the modern age, it can’t replace the original.
Most movie remakes are better only in the use of special effects and graphics. Some change the tone and text to support a specific agenda. Those are definite losers.

Maybe not remakes, but IMHO, some of the EPIC satires, were better than the original horror/calamity films, such as the Towering Inferno or Poseidon Adventure.
(IMHO even the first Poseidon Adventure was better than the second.)

I may be treading perilously close to heresy, but the remake of “Sabrina” gives the original a very close run for the money.
Audrey Hepburn is uniquely special, but Julia Ormond in the title role is really a honey.
The remainder of the cast and movie in the remake is better.
Flame away! :-)

“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Much better than the animated crap that was done in the 70’s.

Dawn of the Dead. The original is good, the remake is better.

I am waiting for the sequel to "Primary Colors" called "Primarily Colored",
and the sequel to "Wag the Dog" called "Wag the Wagyu".

Ben Hur, twice. The 1925 version was better than the 1907 and the 1959 version was better than the 1925.

Same with the Chronicles of Narnia they have been producing, albeit, is it fair to compare to the old animated ones?

My husband kind of thought the remake of “in Cold Blood” starring Eric Roberts was somewhat better. It gave a clearer version of the before and afters.
I thought it might have been better too.

Well, this may be just my opinion, but I rather favored the Depp Chocolate Factory remake over the original, but I still love Wilder's version very much. I just think that the remake actually captured the author's original intention a little more realistically.
