The Maltese Falcon with Bogard was a better than 1931 version.

“However, I found the gory special effects in the Carpenter remake to be sickening rather than scary. I also thought the Hawks version was a better overall movie.”
C’mon when that head grew legs and tried to walk out of the room that wasn’t the best “You got to be f**king me.” moment that ever happened in the movies LOL.

Magnificent Seven was better than the Seven Samauri.I've been disagreeing with some of the picks in this thread, but enough is enough. Seven Samurai is, imho, one of the top 5 best films ever made, ever ever ever. Watching the Criterion Collection remastering of it makes the experience all the better (Criterion does the best foreign film remasterings). The Magnificent Seven was a pretty bland rehash; not really a remake, more of a cultural rebranding of the story. As a movie, though, Magnificent Seven was a typical Western of the era.

It hasn’t happened yet, but when The Last Airbender gets remade, it will vault to the top of this list by default.

“Then there is Tweedledeedee (played by Chris Matthews) and Tweedledeedum (also played by Chris Matthews).......well, I could go on but you get the picture.
See ya at the movies!”
Bravo, well done. Painted an excellent picture in my mind’s eye.

Hi, Alamo-Girl!
You are more than welcome for the memories.
I take the topic of film very seriously. Since my older brother and I were basically raised in the old Langley Theater in Adelphi, MD. during the weekends of 1966-69.
My sister would go to dance lessons in the studio just above the theater. Which provided my parents a great opportunity to get rid of we kids for awhile and maintain their sanity.
I saw may classics at the Langley. Many lesser films and more than a few dogs, but it was time well spent. Studying the different styles of directors. From Kubrick to Kurosawa to John Sturgis, Don Seigel, Larry Cohen and Roger Corman. Which might explain my preference for older and B&W films. While shying away from more modern, recent, homogenized, PC fare.
Someone at a Sci-Fi site I frequent posited the question about Directors 'Tweaking' their films and re-releasing them as 'Updates' and Director's Cuts.

To each his own. There is no Japanese equivalent of Yul Brenner/Steve McQueen.

An Affair to Remember with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr... much better than the earlier Irene Dunne version.

Sabrina
Star Trek (okay, it was a remake of a TV show, but it was done with GREAT affection, and doesn’t take itself too seriously)
