Perhaps its a region lit up by a gamma ray jet from the giant black hole in the Galaxy’s center. I figure a jet burst could travel for a long time before it hits something and lights it up.
It says it was found north and south of the galactic center, If that is not a sign of a jet interaction I don’t what else is!
