mernilio writes

"According to UPI: 'A Massachusetts school district superintendent said a memo banning sixth graders from carrying pencils was written without district approval. North Brookfield School District interim Superintendent Gordon Noseworthy said Wendy Scott, one of two sixth-grade teachers at North Brookfield Elementary School, did not get approval from administrators before sending the memo to all sixth-grade parents, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported Thursday. The memo said students would no longer be allowed to bring writing implements to school. It said pencils would be provided for students in class and any students caught with pencils or pens after Nov. 15 would face disciplinary action for having materials 'to build weapons.'"

I still have the lead from a pencil that Ann Jenney stuck in my leg in 1935. She was always a problem.

Volusia County, FL proposed banning spelling bee's a number of years ago. Logic was stated on a official school district memo: “Spelling is educationally unsound today”.

I got stabbed in the leg (accidentally) when in about 5th grade, I still have the lead mark and scar to prove it. That was 60 yrs. ago so pencils have been weapons for quite some time now & never was banned in any of my schools.

If pencils are outlawed, only accountants will have pencils.

Had pencil lead in my leg that took about 30 years to work its way out. Never should have tugged that girls hair in music class.

Next, they’re going to outlaw reading to protect students from being victimized by “misinformation”.

LOL, I had my first stitches due to a pencil in a kid's back pocket and rough housing.

Only challenge is that your subject is not likely to hold still while you get set up. :)

They slow down substantially when you drive the bones in their nose into their brain. Course after that the pencil through the eye isn't STRICTLY necessary.

Some idiot stabbed me in the hand with a pencil back in 5th grade art class. I had the lead mark for years and years.

Sure, ban pencils but that metal math compass still has a very sharp point. ;)

And that kind of logic has gone beyond education to our legal system re: Minnesota gubernatorial election recount. One of the esteemed state supreme court judges ruled that the concept of the number of votes counted equalling the number of voters signing in is outdated.
