Wasn't it Vic Damone who later changed his mind about accepting the role of Johhny Fontaine because it was “offensive” to Italien Americans? Many thought the film depicted Damone (some say Sinatra) as Fontane. The actor who actually played Johnny Fontane was Al Martino.
