Uh oh. Fast-falling snow is falling more slowly, with puffy flakes. This could stay a while.

We may have snow on the ground by morning. Rain for today, for sure. It is so ugly and dark out. The wind has died, but the work goes on...ear pollution outside my window.

Cold, noisy and stinky. I’m fed up with backhoes, jack-hammers, dumptrucks and diesel fumes. Not to mention roped-off sidewalks so we have to detour around the block to visit next door...

But! The sun is shining above the clouds, and life is good!

39 and sunny here. We’re home from the gym (Anoreth, Tom, Elen, James, Vlad, and me), almost finished lunch, and then we’re going to Discovery Place for the afternoon.

We thought about going to the Airborne museum in Fayetteville, but decided a 2-1/2 hour drive each way would be suicidal.

Lots of snow here, and it’s falling ever harder. I have a “short” video uploading.

There isn’t much traffic here, and I realized that it’s because the county has taken the week off except for “essential” services.

The suicidal part will come next week, when colleges, schools, city and county entities are back on the roads. *shudder*

I’ve been in minor floods, and I prefer high, solid ground. Of course, that’s the problem here...the desert soil has been baked for centuries, and when we get a sudden storm, the water runs off it like it would a rock.

If we get several days of rain, it will soak in, but only so far. Up where I live, the water has nowhere to go but downhill.

First off, did you ever give consideration to the thought that God’s an alien being?

Yes.

Do you know The Almighty’s got a spaceship that makes our Flying Castle look like a barnacle on a supertanker?

No. I've never read the Bible.

My view is that we are all "The Son of God", made by Him in His image, in the form of souls. We then 'create' the 'physical' lives we live in order to put us in situations where we can learn to be more like Him.

For instance, why do some people seem to have blessed lives, and others struggle with tragedy, sickness, etc.? Maybe the lawyer, who drops a few coins into the hand of the homeless man he passes everyday, well, maybe they agreed to experience this for the soul growth of them both?

When we die, it's like waking up from a deep sleep. Our friends and family are there, and upon waking, we exclaim "I've just had the most amazing dream!", and then we review every min. of it to see what we did right and wrong. Once we've learned everything we can from the experience, and when we are ready, we pick new experiences, and new parents, and have ourselves sent back for another chance to learn.

Hmmm... 12000 furlongs on a side, the wall 144 cubits as of the measure of the angel. Yikes!

We'd need a few more shuttles, but I think we could expand the Castle to match that...

This conversation has one central feature that interests me greatly, and it is the issue of credibility.

I had this conversation with two other Engineers yesterday, and framed it this way: If you were to suddenly snap wide awake at 2:19am and sit bolt upright to be met with the sight of an 8ft tall radiant white-robed being standing beside your bed, and that being told you something very specific and very important about the relatively near future, how would you tell anyone else about it?

If your angelic/alien/ghostly visitor flat TOLD you that San Francisco was going to be totally leveled by a 12.7 earthquake at 3:47am on April 9th, 2011, how would you go about getting ANYONE else to believe a) that you’d actually seen what you saw, b) that you’d actually heard what you heard, and c) that what you’d been told was actually going to happen?

At 3:47am on April 9th, 2011, EVERYONE will be presented with tangible proof that your experience was real, and that your message was true, but how to get them to live like it is beforehand?

It seems to me that this is the central issue in dealing with all things of this nature.

Its not that nothing’s ever happened to anybody; there are FAR too many otherwise regular people running around saying they’ve seen a ghost, an angel, an alien — you name the particular experience — for us to reasonably dismiss them all as loonies. Yet, that is our overriding tendency.

In fact, because our society so stigmatizes people who talk about such things, there are more people who’ve had such experiences than actually have told anyone. I’ve had people tell me about things they’ve never told anyone else; angelic encounters, revelations, visions. It’s simply not reasonable to just say, “Ah, they’re all nuts,” or “They’re making it all up.” Some most likely are, but all?? No. No way. Plainly, SOMETHING actually DID happen to SOME of these people.

So, we must grapple with the question of whom do we believe? To whom do we extend credibility, and why?

Or, perhaps that approach is exactly backward. Perhaps, rather than try to decide to whom we ought to grant credibility, our task should be to decide to whom deny it.

In C. S. Lewis’ “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe” Professor Digory Kirke hears Peter and Susan relate to him Lucy’s story of having been in Narnia. His advice to them is, “Either your sister is telling lies, or she is mad, or she is telling the truth. You know she doesn’t tell lies and it is obvious that she is not mad. For the moment then and unless any further evidence turns up, we must assume that she is telling the truth.”

Now, back to you, and your specific message. As of 3:47am on April 9th, 2011, there will be no unbelievers anywhere within 100 miles of San Francisco, but all you will be able to say is, “I tried to tell them, but only a few believed me.”

Why is it our social proclivity to write you off as a nutcase, rather than extend you the grace of credibility, at least until 3:48am April 9th, 2011?

That is an interesting body of belief. What are its origins?
