Photobucket This was also taken with a P&S, a Canon S2 but the conditions were ideal. For indoors sport a fast lens is a necessity.

"Dang, I miss my dogs."

Find a local shelter and do some volunteer time!

LOL

I haven’t seen my dogs in two weeks due some business travel.

Will see them tomorrow and do whatever they want me to do.

“”Here’s my usual load up when shooting sports.

2 x 1D MK III
1 x 5D
1 x 24-70 f/2.8
1 x 70-200 f/2.8IS
1 x 300 f/2.8IS if handholding
or
1 x 400 f/2.8IS if not.
5 x 32GB CF cards
1 x 580EX II flash
1 x Epson p5000
1 x monopod””

Nice little kit! :-)

I think that the original poster would do well with a 7D, a decent general-purpose zoom (15-85 IS or 17-55 f/2.8 IS), and a couple of fast primes with focal lengths that match the situation - perhaps an 85/1.8 for the indoor sports.

Outdoor sports, more focal length is needed, but I think that in most cases, especially in a non-pro situation, a slower aperture is acceptable. A 70-200 f/4 and a 1.4X teleconverter ought to cover things well.

Another source for equipment rental - www.lensrentals.com . I’ve dealt with Roger there in the past. They’re legit. They also occasionally sell used gear so it might be a good place to get a mid or high-end lens for less than new.
