I’d suggest using a front end loader for constructing the firepit, has to a be a big one heh.

This is a really bad idea. A case for the slippery slope.
It's doubtful this will work or even produce anything viable that can live for more than a few weeks. I'm more interested in them getting to the point where they can clone or regrow organs and limbs for humans.
Anyone care to speculate where this might end up in ten or twenty years?
Assuming it worked, some really interesting "Man vs Animal" shows on the Discovery Channel?
