You must have gotten the smaller size. :}

Actually, I did throw the sofa cushions and back upholstery in after I took the foam out. If it's fabric and I can get it in, I wash it.

I will admit to getting carried away. I did a lot of scouting and after years of frustration in trying to wash sleeping bags in the top loader, this front loader makes it fun.

Wow! I'd love to be able to throw a whole bed or sofa in my washer!

"Whirlpool front loader rocks!! I wash comforters, sleeping bags, curtains, down jackets, pillows - bed and sofa, everything fabric in my house with no problems for three years now."

Front loader, no question.

Mine uses much less (hot)water , clothes are cleaner, dry faster (1100rpm spin) and literally $30 in HE detergent in 2 + years. I do outdoor jobs and work clothes last noticably longer with the front loader.

And you can wash quilts, sleeping bags, etc.

Every 2-3 months I run the self cleaning cycle and wipe the door seal for no mildew.

Choose one with at least 1000 rpm spin speed.

I got mine (Frigidaire) a few years ago when my top loader gave out... I went front loader specifically so I could wash sleeping bags. I was surprised how much of a difference it made in my water bill. I wasn’t expecting to be able to notice the difference, but it was significant.

I have an electric ... it does ok, but electricity here is more expensive than gas. If I could, I would go with gas. The only dryers I have seen have all be front loaders.

I highly recommend the maytag front loader.
The Kenmore/Whirlpool have pump problems.

It's what I do..

You won't get rid of the black on the door seal but this will eliminate the odors.
Also, never allow clothes to sit in the washer, that's what causes most of the mildew
since the tub has only a small ventilation hole.

Wrong.

They all have Concrete slabs in them.

Pull your head out of the sand.

We bought new toploaders in 2004 and sold them with our house in 2006. New house only had electric (our dryers had been gas) so we needed to buy at least one anyway. After a lot of research, bought the Bosch frontloaders. Use dramatically less water, clothes are in better shape (less wear/tear), and the dryer gets less use because the clothes are drier coming out of the washer. On the highest spin setting (a ridiculous 1250 RPM), the washer shimmies (esp with a heavy load). We select a lower spin at night. We use them daily and like them- treat them about once a month with a drop-in cleaning product. I will only ever have frontloaders from now on.
