Good thing she wasn’t trying out for ‘American Idol’. Butcher the lyrics on that show, and it is ‘goodbye’...

Couldn’t agree more. It is the ONE song that MUST be sung properly or not at all. You can save your style of singing for your own work, but leave the National Anthem as it was meant to be sung. Stick to Country singers to sing it.

She butchered it because she doesn't have the voice to sing it correctly. This is why she, and others, 'embellish' it - they're merely masking their voice's limitations.
Josh Groban would sing it perfectly. I've heard Martina McBride sing it and she does very well. Then again, those two would sound wonderful singing in their back yards. The girl, Aguilara (spelling?) would cause the neighborhood cats to screech and run away.
