Former television personality Laurie Dhue says she no longer knew who she was and was tired of suffering in silence from alcoholism when she decided to quit drinking and get help four years ago.

Dhue, who turns 42 tomorrow and was an anchor for the Fox News Channel, MSNBC and CNN, battled her addiction to alcohol for "at least" a decade and a half, she told the "Today" show Wednesday.

"I hid my alcoholism for many, many years," she said. "I was probably a high-functioning alcoholic, as so many people are. But there were cracks, certainly, and there were definitely times when people asked me what was wrong, and I just -- I didn't even know, myself."

Dhue remembers the day she realized she had a terrible problem and decided to get help...

Yes, she WAS the best looking woman on FOX.
But NOW there’s fire-breathing Megyn Kelly.
Laurie Dhue never did occupy that kind of niche.
About 5 yrs. ago on fR, someone appropriately said
“Laurie Dhue is the reason God invented lipstick”

I will never forget the time Whorealdo was in Iraq interviewing troops in 2003 in a Hanger. There were two Soldiers in the rafters holding up a sign that said WE Love You Laurie.

She always seemed like she was a very classy lady to me, and very professional.

I despise that word “demons” used in this context. She had a problem, she took care of it. Good for her. Everyone has someone in their lives who is having or has had a battle with addiction. The stigma is not having it, the stigma is doing nothing about it.

"If I were out socializing and saw her, I would still buy her a drink. She is hot."

You might need a footstool. I stood next to her in line at Reagan National a few years ago, and she was (in her heels) taller than I was - I'm just under 6'4". She's tall - at least 6' - at least.

That’s even better. I love tall chicks. Unfortunately I love my Single Malt Scotch on the weekends, so things would be a little tense around the house.

She will be an excellent spokesperson. Since the 1950s the medical profession has identified alcoholism as a medical condition. The shame is that society still treats it as human weakness and legal problem. IMO if each time a person was drunk they took them to a medical facility with counseling instead of the county jail, we would take many steps forward very quickly.

Aw, what a shame. I’m glad she’s getting help and seems to be recovering well. I always liked her on FOX, especially her guest spots on Red Eye.

Best thoughts and wishes for continued recovery.

I don't think she wanted to be a spox, but she just might have a new venue opening for her now. She could likely help a lot of women suffering silently.
