LOST FOLDER FULL OF BIRDS
SELF | Feb.14, 2011 | swampsniper

Posted on 02/14/2011 6:32:36 PM PST by SWAMPSNIPER

I came home from the gator farm one day last April hot, tired and ready for a nap. I dumped the memory cards to my remote hard drive for later. I only ever processed one of the 2 folders, just now stumbled over the other one.

It's almost time to go back again!

From last April.

That’s funny!

I guess being from Florida I just thought it was a nature preserve that he has near his home. Now I wonder.

What about it Swampy?

These are from the gator farm rookery but stuff shows up in the yard too.

There is an almost uncanny truce at the gator farm, the birds know they are safe and usually timid birds pay no attention to you.

Great pics.

Some of the birds do seem to have red-eye, though. Too much flash? ;)

Thanks for sharing.

Nope, no flash for these shots, they DO have red eyes. It's the most luminous red you will ever see.

Some of the hawks develop red eyes as they mature too, the Cooper's Hawk is one example.

It has vines for nest material, they haul vines and twigs constantly for days.

The trees around the rookery end up looking ragged, the bigger birds can break off small branches easier than you might think. Those beaks are awesome tools.

You never disappoint with your wildlife photos. I especially like the first one with all the twigs and branches in focus. Around the first of this month my grandson was setting out duck decoys in the estuary of the Eel River just south of Eureka Ca when he noticed the oncoming sunrise and on this day he had a older Canon digital pocket camera and caught these two photos...

I received them in a eMail from him and I don't know if he still has the memory card with the photos on it.
