There's no shoulder and it only takes 5 seconds anyway. On the two lane roads on which I drive you really gain nothing by speeding as there are so many stop signs and traffic lights which inevitably force you to slam on the brakes later down the road anyway.
It’s not your business to determine whether I’ll gain anything. Fact is, you don’t know what might be going on in the car behind you.
Case in point...my wife’s daughter suffered a ruptured arterial venus malformation, i.e., an artery in her brain ruptured, much like an aneurysm. There was no time to call an ambulance, they put her in the back of the car and rushed her to the hospital.
Or tried. They got stuck behind a string of traffic driving under the speed limit for no good reason. And since the driver wouldn’t stop, there was no way to pass, as the procession was 7-8 vehicles long.
My wife sat in the back with her daughter dying in her arms as my father-in-law drove, displaying his lights, flashing his hazards, and honking his horn. Not one vehicle pulled over or allowed him to pass.
Would she have survived had they been able to go faster? Who knows? Probably not. But, that’s never a decision that I want YOU or anyone else to make for me. It is not always about how many seconds you think it should take or how many lights you think I should need to go through.
That’s kinda what this whole website is about, don’t you think? People NOT needing or wanting others to make decisions for you, because you don’t always know what’s best for them? Why do you think this exception is OK?
