This is one of the few Christian rock bands that sand Scriptural music.

“Sand”? I'm not sure what that means. I will assume it is a metaphor for being polished using the sandpaper of Scripture.

These bands don’t make Christianity better, they make rock music worse.

Be honest about it with yourself. Almost all rock music is sexual in nature. Makes people want to dance, and dancing leading to, gee, what do you think.... Other secular music is made to get people angry and lead to violence. Some music forms lead to both.

Just don’t kid yourself. I am a Chirstian. I listen to a few very select bands. It is worldly music. I would not play it in church, that is not where it belongs. A “christian band” that has a secular riffs but thinks it’s okay because they changed the words is kidding itself.
It’s like someone trying to say they’ve developed a God-approved “christian porn” because the explicit sex scenes only take place with people who are married to each other and the scenes are much more artful and tasteful than secular porn movies.

Especially the bands that take secular rock songs and just change the lyrics.

There was one clip I saw of a ‘christian rocker’ over in Russia in the early 1990s shortly after the iron curtain fell, and was singing some christian words to Elvis’ Blue Suede shoes with the same kinds of movements used (save for the pelvic thrusts). The kids had no idea what the hell he was saying, they were just dancing to the music.

That’s why just changing the words but keeping the dance beat and heavy drum doesn’t work. It’s still secular music that appeals to the natural in a person, not the spiritual.

Hummmm. A friend from Church gave me a Petra CD and I never got around to listening to it. From the sounds of this thread maybe I ought to check it out.

God Gave Rock and Roll to You!

Part of the soundtrack of my youth... I'm not even a Christian anymore, but I'm going to try to catch them on tour.

To put an end to a lot of peoples lamenting about music. Personally, I don't like Contemporary, or Christian Rock very much. And yes there are too many mindless praise songs out there.

To an outsider to come into a church and here only hymns and other very old fashioned type music, they won't feel comfortable. Music is an important part of us humans. Don't believe me? Read about David and the Psalms again. I can bet they were done in the most modern of musical technology of the time.
My preference is Gospel with a Country or bluegrass twang, but that's just me. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

So much for the "Farewell" tour and album.

Voltz's voice is too mellow for me. I much prefer the guy from Head East that they had from 1993-2007. Can't remember his name right now.

sand Scriptural music...

OK, I give up. Just what was this supposed to say? Just not managing to decipher the typo... ;-) Probably because my brain is old too

(I saw Petra in concert way back before a lot of the present crop of FReepers was born)

This is great news, that Petra is back, after all this time! I’ve always liked Petra, they were, and are a tremendous group of guys! But, ya know, they are not the only Christian group that has gotten back together and touring again.

How many of you remember “The Jesus Movement” in the very early ‘70’s? Do you remember that there was a lot of “Jesus Music” as well?

One of the most remembered, and important groups of the Jesus Music era was “LoveSong”. Thier first album, “LoveSong” was released in 1972. That album is a classic now; it was truly the BEST Christian album to come out of that era. Imagine the harmonies of the BeachBoys; Beatles influenced melodies, with solid Christian lyrics - this is LoveSong.

These guys were the real thing. They just wanted to sing about The Lord. But they also played great Rock n’Roll as well. Phil Keaggy loved them, he often played with them on tour. (I saw them in Dallas in 1975, with Phil Keaggy..truly outstanding!)

Well, after almost 40 years, Chuck Girard and the rest of the original members of the group are back together, and currently on tour again.

If ya’ll want to hear what they sounded like, here’s a recording from their first album. Remember, this was recorded almost 40 years ago, and still stands up well! =

And here is their official Webpage=
http://thelovesongband.com/

I was 22 years old when I first heard LoveSong. This band and others in that era, including Petra, were very important to all of us who came out of the Jesus Movement.

While I may not agree with all of the theology of Petra, or LoveSong..both bands were influential, and important to a lot of us, when we were kids in those halycon days of the early Jesus Movement.

I, for one, shall never forget those days, or the bands that we listened to.
