Music (without words) certainly communicates. But when words are added, the communication becomes less susceptible to translation errors. I never have had the argument with myself whether this song I am listening to is secular or “spiritual”. I do not even know what that means..

Computer programming is secular, as is flipping burgers, making cars, painting, etc.. So what if music is secular?

Dio will have to answer for his testimony.

Personally, I do not think ALL music is appropriate for all times, some music is inappropriate at ALL times. One has to practice discretion in all things. I prefer traditional hymns in worship, it helps me get in the frame of mind to worship God. But see, that is my preference..

It looks to me like you are hung up on secular things being evil. I hope you get over that.. Don’t confuse my statement as an approval of every rock musicians antics.. Personal responsibility..

I think you need to re-read my posts, you don’t seem to get it.

I am saying these people are kidding themselves that this music is christian. It is rock music. Rock music is not christian music. It doesn’t matter what words you slap over screaming guitars and shouting singers that dress and act like any other rock musician. The message is overwhelmed by the rock music.

Rock music is by nature not Godly music. The dancing beat of heavy drums and hard heavy bass, and arpeggio guitar solos and screaming and yelling is not godly music. I don’t care what words you put there, it is not godly music. If you would feel weird about playing it from CD, or having the artists perform it live, for one of your church services, then there’s a problem with that music.

I am saying don’t kid yourselves about the nature of rock music. It isn’t christian music. No matter what kind of veneer you try to put over it, it’s still rock music, and not christian music. I am not saying you should never listen to it, I am saying be honest with yourself, do not kid yourself as to what it is you are listening to.
