It's clearly stated in Virginia State law. Private property owners and businesses can't usurp State law. If a law protects someone from being required to prove ownership of something once they have purchased it, then in fact and by law, it is his RIGHT to not show a receipt.

Why are people that claim to be conservative so eager for others to obey an illegal arbitrary rule? I guess some people are really letting their authoritarian flag fly tonight.

So why is this guy being a jerk?

Why is he shopping at Walmart?

Truer words haven't been written on this thread. Crap like I read on this thread make me despair for my country.

Why?

I doubt it exists because no retail merchant would be for a law that prevents them from verifying the merchandise walking out their door has been paid for.

And if it does exist, it’s a stupid law. What business is it of the government if one merchant wants to check receipts at their exist door and another doesn’t.

I wouldn’t know about those sorts of things. Apparently, you do. Just be glad this “thumper” hasn’t, yet, thumped your authoritarian caboose. You might learn the meaning of respect. Then again, you might be incapable. Either way, this “thumper” would enjoy the “thumping” he dishes out.

Have a nice day, Adolph.

:-)

I’ve had the same experience at a local liquor drive-thru. Now I just go a half mile further down the road. Problem solved, and everybody’s “rights” are intact.

Sarcasm doesn’t always play well in writing without more context. If you want to throw barbed comments around grow tough skin ‘cuz your gunna get some back.

How would a disrespectful jackass teach me or anyone else respect? You may be ten years younger but you’d be one sorry little grease spot if you tried what you’re inferring.

What business is it if the checker at the door watches the patron pay for the item and then insists on checking the receipt?

It has happened to me. I find it insulting.

Actually, I have had this exact fantasy! I have told my husband that one day I am going to politely walk by the checker when she asks to see my receipt with a pleasant smile and say, ‘no, have a nice day’. What would they do? I have just spent money at your business and now you want to treat me like a common criminal, guilty until proven-innocent as I leave. I will never step foot in a WalMart again. Who needs that? The rest of you want to be compliant sheep that put up with this treatment to save a few pennies, be my guest.

You’re anger should be directed at Walmart and the managers at that particular store. It’s obvious from what happened that the assistant manager knew the law, but didn’t properly instruct the “poor innocent guy trying to do his job.”

Precisely.

And I won’t buy coffee at any Starbux either. B/c of their politics.

I doubt it, gramps. Some folks simply need to have their senses smacked into alignment. Anyway, you’re an authoritarian and you know it. Just admit you are and you can go on living your fantasy of being a free being.

I’ve always been amused by anonymous letters on a screen threatening other anonymous letters on a screen. It sort of reminds me of dogs barking at one another from passing cars.

“What is pitiful is self-important slimeballs...”

“This dickhead...”

“Just narcissistic crap from a nitwit troublemaker.”

If “Conservatives show courtesy and respect to their fellow man,” the level of respect in your comments indicate you are not a Conservative.

I’m with this guy. We have a new law in CA where the checker at a store is no longer allowed to ask us our zip codes when we purchase something, and I love it! What business is it of theirs to know where we live? I know it’s for marketing, but still.
