Bravery never retires.
Never to old to be a hero.
Thanks for the good story Ben,
I’ll say a prayer for this very large mans health.
How much says he saw action in WW II?
What a heartwarming story. Mr. Shear is a hero in the true sense of the word. He and his family are in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
He may not have. Even during the war there were minimum height requirements he may not have met. I would bet that he tried, though.
Reminds me of Albion’s “The Five People You Meet in Heaven.”
God Bless this man, prayers to him and his family, not too many of his kind left. I agree with the previous posters, and I realize I am paraphrasing here; this man may be a retired jockey but he’s 7’ 3” to the little girl and me.
Little Big Man
I love hero stories and this man certainly fits the bill. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery.
Bonnie Tyler wrote a song long ago that must have been about this guy:
Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream
of what I need
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night
He’s gotta be strong
And he’s gotta be fast
And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light
He’s gotta be sure
And it’s gotta be soon
And he’s gotta be larger than life
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There’s someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder end rising with the heat
It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet
I was going to say “and Korea” then it occurred to me that he’s possibly too short to be accepted into the military service. Helluva big man in my eyes!
