This year was actually a good year for movies, as I’ve written repeatedly. The King’s Speech was great; so was Toy Story 3; Inception may go down as one of the most creative films of all time. The Fighter was excellent as well.
Then there were the overrated films. Black Swan was atrociously awful, another Aronofsky masterpiece of self-aggrandizing bullcrap. The Kids Are All Right was a TV movie masquerading as a prestige film because it was about lesbians. True Grit was a remake.

Of the pics he mentioned, I agree about Up in the Air. George Clooney is underrated as an actor. He was good in the movie, but it is a basically depressing movie without much interest and a sad ending.
I didn’t like the Matrix, but some people almost worship it, including my son, so I’ll just say that people disagree.
Annie Hall and every other movie Woody Allen made since has been horrible and I include the acclaimed Hannah and her Sisters.
I will say Javier Bardem is fantastic in the flick. His scene at the gas station where he flips the coin is one of the best movie scenes ever.
I thought that scene was the most tense scene ever, until I saw the opening scene of 'Inglourious Basterds."

I don’t get the charm of the Matrix or Blade Runner (which I recently watched again) but I’d go with Blade Runner as the best of the two.

I was talking to my son today and he turned Inception off after 15 minutes. We lasted 30. Horrible movie.
"Independence Day"...anything with Mike Myers, anything with Decaprio, anything with Sandler...
most underrated...."The Year of Living Dangerously" was just out of this world fantastic....can't take my eyes away when its on....
And I forgot to include a 4th turkey: The most boring movie of all time: Arsenic and Old Lace

Costner is a LEGEND... in his own mind.
DiCrapio is THE MOST overrated actor.

I totally agree. Also liked “Jackie Brown”. Pam Grier still looked fabulous.
Carlito’s Way was good and Sean Penn’s character was creepy but Al carried the film.
Here is another one with Penn - State of Grace. Why is it good. Gary Oldman - peerless. He carried Penn through the film. Posters on youtube say Oldman should have gotten an Academy Award for this one - I agree.
Hey, I kind of agree with your list. I loved October Sky — great movie.
Forrest Gump - didn’t think it was all that until I saw it again. It’s all that.
Titanic - never wanted to see it again, but it was a vastly entertaining movie and sometimes that’s all I ask.
Groundhog Day - another movie that grows on you if you watch it again.
I thought The English Patient was okay. Slow paced, but okay.
Independence Day, mediocre.
It’s been so, so long since I saw The Year of Living Dangerously (and I’m not sure I saw all of it) that I can’t really comment on that one.
Agree and agree. As a supporting actor Penn CAN be good.

I cant speak to how teenage girls feel about him. Being a teenage boy at the time, I wanted to punch him quite often. But recently, he has become a pretty decent actor, making some good movies.
I really liked Catch Me if You Can, The Departed, and Inception. And he was pretty good in the Romeo and Juliet remake, as long as you can get past the current setting of the movie.
Speaking of the Departed, who would have thought in 1999 that Mark Wahlberg, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Matt Damon would be action stars?
Hated 2001 and ... omgosh, Close Encounters. I remember my sister walked out when he was making a sculpture of his mashed potatoes. What a pretentious, overrated movie.
