Whereas, freedom of speech must be protected to ensure the future of our democracy

I don't understand his issue here. Savage is banned from ENGLAND, not from speaking his mind in the US. He rails against this almost daily. What does he expect from a foreign socialist country with no Constitution? There is no right to travel to any foreign country you please.

I must be a coward. I can’t imagine a reason important enough to make me want to travel outside US borders today.

We are still in frigid temps in the Northeast. I could see a trip to Antigua, to enjoy umbrella drinks on the beach of a resort, a real important reason right now.

While I think it's a very negative move for Britain to ban somebody based on their politics, I really do not support a One World system and for Americans to sign a petition against a ruling of another country are we not setting ourselves up for other nations to do the same against us when they disagree with a decision we may make for our own nation?

I support Michael Savage's right to speech but unfortunately those rights stop at the border.

I agree he should be able to go there but why in the hell would he want to? England is a Muslim country.

I get the principle of the matter.. that it`s simply wrong to ban him.. But he ought to consider going to Ireland instead. It`s far cleaner, the people are friendlier and there aren`t hairy-tailed, knuckledragging, simian muslims on every corner.

Blair, Brown and their anti-Christian government routinely allowed foreign mullahs to proselytise through organisations like Al-Muhajiroun in a mosque down the road from me, without consequences, for years and only ever intervened when they overstepped the mark between expressing hostility to Western / Christian / Jewish values without condoning violence, and directly calling for acts of terror against the West, or against Jews or Christians.

After 7/7, Blair’s two cretinous feminazi stooges, Jack-boot Jacqui Smith and Harriet Harman (queen of the politically correct hence the nickname Hattie HarPERSON) between them ensured that “incitement” was subjected to reductio ad absurdem, in legislation.

Now you can’t even offend gays or Muslims en masse, WITH GOVERNMENT/STATE APPROVAL, on the basis that to do so either indicates institutional support for violence from them, or institutional support for violence against them. The government cannot be seen to endorse the incitement, and government decides who can and cannot come into the country. Therefore the last government tied its own hands as regards Michael Savage.

The key thing there is WITH GOVERNMENT/STATE APPROVAL. I can still express anti-homosexuality in the street. I can still express anti-Islam views in the street. I don’t need their “approval” for that. I would need their approval to do it in a public building, and of course I cannot get it because their own rules prevent them from allowing THEMSELVES to authorize it. That’s why they won’t risk allowing Savage (or Phelps) in until the law’s been changed.

Tories are minded to do just that, but right now they have more pressing priorities. Like stopping the country’s economy going down the toilet.

Our ability to turn nutters away based on what they’re saying AND who they’re going to be saying it to, might be over the top, but conceptually it is perfectly justifiable. Look at it this way:

Fred Phelps has also expressed an interest in coming to the UK to proselytise. He isn’t likely to firebomb a nightclub frequented by homosexuals, even if he’s happy to say that those people deserve to burn in hell. He’s not likely to directly incite a crowd of people to carry out firebombings either. Anyone who did such a thing after listening to Phelps is, what? A domestic terrorist? A lone nutjob?

Like Savage, Phelps should be let in.

That certainly doesn’t mean you can apply the exact same reasoning to an Islamist who wants to come here to preach “Allah hates fags” to a crowd full of West-hating fundamentalists who already believe that homosexuals are legitimate Jihad targets. Those people are just waiting for a mullah to come here and give them the nod of approval to go ahead and actually do it. The Mullah doesn’t actually even have to give an indirect order, to incite a bloodbath.

And that’s the difference.

I am more interested in what he lost over there the last time he went that makes him want to go back.

When people ask me why I have not returned to various places in the midwest (or insert any other place, say like San Fran), I simply tell them that I never lost anything there so there is no real reason to go back.

I understand now. You ARE in the UK. I was thinking that you were an American citizen in the US.

I understand your grief about all that is happening. It's not right. And it should not be that way.

But are you not opening up a can of worms by allowing outsiders to be able to legally petition changes in your own government?

If we Americans can petition your government to allow for Michael Savage to go where he obviously is not welcomed then couldn't some Islamic extremist also petition a Bin Laden type to someday legally become your PM?

I think if it's gone that far in your country (and I certainly do not doubt you), your last worry should be whether or not an AM talk radio host from the US can come and speak. You have serious problems that need to be taken care of before you end up on the floor 5 times a day.

It was a cold winter here in NW KS, too. But, not cold enough that I could travel out of the US to warmer places, and save money, or even enjoy it more, especially since I still have to heat my house, shop, and greenhouse to keep my pets, plants, and plumbing alive.

I may as well hunker down, enjoy the heat I have to buy anyway, and save the thousands of $s it would cost to run away and have to run the household, in addition.

Also, my list of dream vacations does not include one involving driving a day to an airport, being groped by a neanderthal union TSA employee, checking into a motel room costing several hundred $/day, sitting on my butt or lying on my back, sipping expensive drinks.

Spot on.

Your government can petition all it likes to Westminster to let Farrakhan, Phelps, Savage or anybody else come over here.

We reserve the right to decide who we do and don’t want over here. The only issue is that under Blair the rules were tightened up to absurd lengths.

Having said that, they’re still not as absurd as your border controls.

The sheer amount of red tape I had to go through to even BOOK a trip to the States (despite being security cleared to work in datacenters in police headquarters all over Europe, having a 100% clean bill of health from the vetting agencies this side of the pond AND being in the UK at the invitation of a certain large American company) actually had me in half a mind to not bother.

And then I got felt up by the TSA on the way home.

Tell you what: we’ll let in Savage and Phelps, but first we’ll make them do six months of paperwork and then have a bunch of squeaky-voiced queens enthusiastically check their genitals for concealed explosive substances on the flight over.

Huzzah for freedom of speech... and freedom of movement.
