LOL...I guess I learned it a little different than you...

Parentheses, Powers (i.e. exponents), Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction

Ambiguous. The precedence of division and the multiplication of the parenthsized (9+3) is the same, therefore both answers are valid.

The preferred but non-binding left-to-right reading gives 288.

2

48/2(9+3)=x
48/2*12=x
48/24=x
2=x

If the equation was

(48/2)(9+3)=x
24*12=x
288=x

You added a perenthesis around the 2*(9+3) element that disambiguates the equation. Using typical left-to-right processing, the answer is 288.

Nosir. Joe 6 has it correctly, but I doubt public education teaches students to think before using a calculator these days.

What caused you to multiply before dividing? Multiplication and division (technically) have the same precedence, to my memory.

the lack of a stated arithmetic operator between the 2 and the (9+3) associates them. That is the way you can build in an implied * to the equation

answer is 2

I don’t know what is correct by the rules but in computer science it is parenthesis first followed by multiply or divide followed by add or subtract with whichever has precedence calculating left to right. In other words.

(48/2) * (9+3) = 288

That only works if there are parentheses around the 48/2. There aren't. In computing, the logics are as follows - anything in parentheses first, then multiplication, then division.

So logically, it would be:

1) 9+3 = 12
2) 2*12 = 24
3)48/24 = 2

in order for it to be 288, it would need to read: 48/(2(9+3))

in order for it to be 288 2, it would need to read: 48/(2(9+3)) You got it backward.
