Ping.
Jesse Jackson sees the future.
An ipad made in the US would probably cost $3000 dollars...at least. I remember seeing the US-made equivalent of the iphone last year. The cost of labor would have made the device unaffordable for all but the wealthy. Instead, virtually anyone can purchase. These union-loving socialists are a primary driver in shifting manufacturing and other jobs out of the US. The ever increasing costs of labor, regulations, and political graft is a major driver in costs.
You mean the same stores that hide books written by conservatives? Good riddance.
100 years ago, geniuses like the Reverend Jackson were castigating Henry Ford for putting all of those buggy whip manufacturers out of business.
Jesse Jackson does not seem to know about American innovation and entrepenurial spirit.
If he had been alive back in the time of Henry Ford, he would have been complaining about the lose of buck wagon and saddle making jobs.
In some ways, jesse jr. has stumbled upon the truth. The iPad, in our services organization, will ultimately lead to us getting rid of two departments -
Why? because prior to the iPad, we could get an ROI on giving laptops into part-time workers hands, so they faxed in everything creating double-entry. Now, with the iPad at 500-600, we can get the technology ROI in a short period of time AND eliminate all of the fax/double data-entry processes. Plus it gets rid of QA.
You said it better than I did—LOL! You were posting while I was typing......
Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. goes on an anti-tech rant, blames the iPad for U.S. job losses

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. appears to think technology gadgets including tablet computers like the iPad are the reason this country is shedding jobs. Really? The Illinois Congressman went on one of the more outrageous anti-technology rants on Friday on the floor of Congress. We transcribed the remarks below, since we couldnt really believe what we were hearing.
A few short weeks ago I came to the House floor after having purchased an iPad and said that I happened to believe, Mr. Speaker, that at some point in time this new device, which is now probably responsible for eliminating thousands of American jobs. Now Borders is closing stores because, why do you need to go to Borders anymore? Why do you need to go to Barnes & Noble? Buy an iPad, download your book, download your newspaper, download your magazine.
Chicago State University, in my congressional district, in freshman class, they are not being given textbooks any longer. They are all being given iPads as they enter school. President Wayne Watson hopes to have a textbook-less campus in four years, where at this state university they will no longer have textbooks.
Well, what becomes of publishing companies and publishing company jobs? And what becomes of bookstores and librarians and all of the jobs associated with paper? Well, in the not too distant future, such jobs simply will not exist. Steve Jobs is doing pretty well. Hes created the iPad. Certainly, it has made life more efficient for Americans, but the iPad is produced in China. It is not produced here in the United States. So, the Chinese get to take advantage of our First Amendment value that is to provide freedom of speech through the iPad to the American people. But there is no protection for jobs here in America to ensure that the American people are being put to work.
Jackson didnt take on the Kindle or any other high-tech device, most of which are assembled overseas. But he probably hated this recent headline on GeekWire: Sales of e-books soar, now the #1 format over paper.
I actually had a hard time believing what I was hearing, but luckily Real Clear Politics has video of the remarks.
I guess you could debate whether products assembled in China are good for the U.S. economy or not, but most would agree that employing the smart people who design, develop and engineer the products is not such a bad thing.
Did Jesse Jackson Jr. simply forget about that?

I’m still pissed that my career shoeing horse in NYC was ruined by mass transportation and cars!
Jr might be on to something here at least the dumbing down of America.
No Matter where you go seems half the population Man, Women, Children must have a cell phone glued to their ear or Texting someone. In the Car, Shopping, Eating, Bathroom.
What can be so important that you spend your entire meal on the phone while your setting with your family at the restaurant. Or in the Restroom do your business then call them back. Gee-sh
They are becoming the center of the American culture and we don't seem to be able to live without them.
Jeese, would you like the exclusive rights to market iPads in Chicago?
I hear he might be angling for a donation of some sort from Apple.
I hope you dont think I am Jeese. I personally hate them and refuse to carry even a cell phone.
