Word For The Day, Tuesday, May 10, 2011

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

Floccinaucinihilipilification [flok-suh-naw-suh-nahy-hil-uh-pil-uh-fi-key-shuhn]

-n

the estimation of something as valueless (encountered mainly as an example of one of the longest words in the English language).

[Origin: 1735–45; < Latin floccī + naucī + nihilī + pilī all meaning “of little or no value, trifling” + -fication ]

Obama should be subject to general Floccinaucinihilipilification in light of his dismal record as POTUS.

so what happened, mik, you switched to rooting for the preds last night? ; )
Preds fought valiantly and just could not pull it out last night. i extend my heartfelt sympathies to SG, i know how it feels. well not about the fighting valiantly part, bc i do not think the Caps did, but the being sad part, yes ROR!

Well, I rooted *real* hard for the Canucks to win, but for some reason, they actually held on this time to eliminate the Preds... (sorry SG ;)

They did acquit themselves well in the playoffs, though, and the run seemed to energize hockey fandom in the Music City. As we Sabres’ fans have it down pat by now- “There’s always next year!”

correction, not a hearing, it’s an oral argument. well Cuccinelli will lose and just have to ask for an en banc reconsideration. there ARE still conservatives on the 4th circuit, and i am sure it was total HAPPENSTANCE that none of them are on this particular panel. RME>

Is that haiku?

It was until Hobbes fixed it. Sadly, he's right.

just being appointed by the president whose legislation you are considering is not grounds for recusal. had they actually worked on drafting the legislation, etc. those kinds of htings would be. the supposition for judges is that they will remain impartial.

In most cases that’s fairly reasonable...this set of circumstances seems like an outlier, given the extraordinarily partisan nature of the legislation, and the matter of timing. (I know that doesn’t provide an exception to the situation...just sayin...)
