Guns of Navarone is good. I don’t really like how they changed the resistance workers from guys to girls in the show, but oh well. The rest is great. Have you seen “Where Eagles Dare”? It is based on another of McClean’s books. It is also great.

I’m probably going to watch Black Hawk Down again. The scene where Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon volunteer to try to save Michael Durant always chokes me up. God bless those men.

I'm trying to remember the lesser known movies that I remember seeing as a child.

The Heroes of Telemark

The Dam Busters

Von Ryan's Express

Wikipedia:

“United States Senators George Allen (R-Virginia) and Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia) also have cameo roles, both playing Confederate officers, Phil Gramm (R-Texas) appears as a member of the Virginia Legislature early in the film and Congressman Ed Markey (D-Massachusetts) also appeared as an Irish Brigade officer.”

Haven’t heard of any of those. I don’t know if my local library will have them, but I can check.

“...Attack (Jack Palance)...”

ATTACK had a great cast! The action scenes were corny and campy but Palance, Eddie Albert, Buddy Epson, and William Smithers carried the film. The scene of Lieutenant Woodruff talking to his friend’s corpse was especially well done.

I love watching war movies. Some of my favorites...

Gettysburg
The Longest Day
Band of Brothers
The Pacific
Saving Private Ryan
The Lost Battalion
We Were Soldiers
Enemy at the Gate
Battle of the Bulge

And a lot more, but I can’t recall them.

For authentic tanks, look for Cross of Iron with James Coburn. I think it may be the only movie I have ever seen with actual Russian T34s

It’s a well-done movie. Thankfully for once the military is shown in a good light without the usual Hollywood drivel. If you’re not familiar with the conflict, Shughart and Gordon were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for their actions.
