Ah, yes, it's down at the bottom of the article.

King was verbally abusive when asked to move so LaBelle's people could load her luggage onto a cart.

And then King hit LaBelle's driver in the face.

And that's when the bodyguards moved in.

And King -- rather conveniently -- says "he could not remember what happened before or during the attack."

King's lawyer says he consumed "a few alcoholic drinks" -- that's the lawyer talking, so it's safe to assume that Mr. King was somewhat tipsy at the time.

“He’ll get a call from her mouthpiece about settling out of court.”
One word, young man:
DON’T.

Go to trial and rip ‘em all a new one;)

Oh, and he played defense on the Army football team. He’s not a little guy, in other words.

Video is high-fidelity. What we have recorded on video is a young man of a particular race on a cell-phone, his attention not at all on the luggage or the celebrity entourage suddenly being assaulted by three big goons picked as bodyguards because of their race, not the young man’s race, and their personal intimidation factors. Then we hear of the police taking photos with the thug-hiring celebrity, known for her racist race-hatred comments, directed to the race of the young man. And then that the police are claimed “they smelled alcohol” on the young man of the current socially disfavored race.

Then we hear that the national Military Academy, whose Commander-in-Chief, is known for similar race hating statements, associations and actions, is now suspending and rebuking the young man of the disfavored race.

I know how to add. Do you?

The story, the reasons that the young man of the socially disfavored race was viciously beaten and is now under official rebuke, needs more PUBLIC explanation.

The video shows otherwise. He is small-framed, especially in comparison to the bodyguards.

After watching the video, it looked to me that King was "chest bumped" out of the way before the punch. Typical thug move usually used to provoke a fight without being the first person to throw a punch.

All those quotes about the cadet's behavior are from Zuri, one of the goons who beat him.

And it isn't "rather convenient" that a person who suffers a concussion after getting his head smashed against concrete should experience some short term memory issues about the moments before and after the attack. It's to be expected.

I'm assuming the standards for acceptance to West Point are generally higher than those for being Patti LaBelle's bodyguard. Until I heard otherwise from disinterested third parties, I would tend to believe the cadet over the meathead who beat him.

“He was drunk” that’s the one size fits all, all-purpose smear to be pulled out in such situations, especially when the victim stumbles and falls. Disgusting!

Are you suggesting that the police report was falsified?

The lawyer admits that King "had a few drinks." I think he was more drunk than not.

looks like one of the goons half blindsided King and ‘got in his face’ while bumping him, while King was on the phone.

King reacted by spinning towards the POS crudpile and pushed him away - not an attack, but a defensive reaction.

then the THREE POS crudpiles jumped him and showed what real men they are.

they should be in jail. labelle should be in libya

Or you haven't watched a lot of Army football.

The Army roster lists him at 5'11' and 190, which means he's probably 5'10" and 180. Either way, the other two guys look to be combined 700 lbs or so. Throw in Patti and you're looking at a grand.

Imagine the hoopla if it were Hank Williams Jr’s white bodyguards slamming a black man’s head into a stone pillar.

Was Patti runnin’ hot, runnin’ cold, runnin’ into overload? Perhaps she needs a “new attitude.” Gitchi gitchi ya ya, whatever, she’s a has-been.

We are a society in transition and some people fail to realize their people no longer govern or enjoy high status. We the vanquished must learn how to exhibit signs of submission when in the presence of hostile conquerors. Stand with your head bowed, never, never look the conqueror in the eye as he may feel you are hostile, shuffle the feet and turn the palms of your hands outward, mumble; yes sir, and no sir. By following the aforementioned procedure one might escape a good thrashing. As the Gaul said to the Roman; “Woe to the conquered!”

What the hell are you talking about?

The police wrote down what the goon told them. They weren't there to witness anything personally.

So you can believe Patti LaBelle's bodyguard's excuses for beating somebody senseless, or you can believe a West Point cadet and a video tape that corroborates his story.

Interesting. Looks like HPD is the source of his troubles at West Point. They'll need to stick to their story (that he was drunk and started it). Hopefully, there is enough contrary evidence to make a serious dent in the star's assets and destroy some HPD reputations (if not sue the city, which is probably immune).

I believe that any news article that relies on the word of a lawyer whose income depends on spinning the case in a certain way, is not reliable.

There is more to this story, as there always is when the lawyer is doing the talking.

And yet, FReepers can always be relied upon to gobble up the skittles and unicorns story that the lawyer spins for them.

King was verbally abusive when asked to move so LaBelle's people could load her luggage onto a cart.

And then King hit LaBelle's driver in the face.

And that's when the bodyguards moved in.

What the video actually shows:

King stops near the pillar a few feet away from the entourage. He evidences no interest in the entourage. Hetakes out his cellphone, begins a call, pacing and meandering a bit as people on cellphones sometimes do. He turns his back towards the entourage, and comes in and out of the bottom of the video frame. At 22 seconds in the video the one bodyguard (red-shirt) seems to turn towards King.

There may some verbal interchange between King and the bodyguards at that time, hard to tell, and the red-shirt turns away and towards the cars. At 33 seconds the red-shirt turns back towards King, and takes a more aggressive stance, backing hard and deliberately into King, whereupon King raises his left arm, not as a punch but a arm-out defensive hold off, a move any football player or fan knows.

At 40 seconds the three bodyguards are punching King directly to his head, King's right hand is still holding his cell phone. At 46 seconds they knock his head into the concrete pillar, and at 48 seconds he is flailing on the ground.

It appears that the red-shirted body guard may have kicked him hard then, and perhaps also one of the other bodyguards.

The video differs from your retelling, or the retelling of the bodyguards, if that is what you are quoting. It is not at all uncommon for someone punched and battered to the head so aggressively to lose any recollection of events. It is a good thing the video tells the tale, isn't it?
