Actually, it’s kinda dangerous to leave a pit bull alone with an adult, too:
“Pit bulls are also more likely to kill an adult than a child. In the 3-year period, pit bulls killed more adults (ages 21 and over), 54%, than they did children (ages 11 and younger), 46%. In the 21-54 age group, pit bulls were responsible for 82% (14) of the deaths. The data indicates that pit bulls do not only kill children and senior citizens; they kill men and women in their prime years as well. “

when I was a teenager, I experienced a pit bull attacking and shaking a little girl....I intervened and choked the dog to death...The owner was irate, but I was big enough to justify my actions.....Later, he was found to be responsible for his dog....I was not injured whatsoever...the dog is dead.
Re: dogsbite.org
I contacted dogsbite.org with information derived from a phone conversation
I had with an Animal Control officer in San Antonio.
A dog involved in a fatality, identified in the media as a `pit bull`, was observed by the officer.
She told me, in no uncertain terms, that the dog was not a `pit bull`.
I contacted dogsbite.org with this fact,
naively assuming it was a reputable website
interested in compiling accurate information.
I was wrong. To this day they still call the dog a `pitbull`.
In my opinion any site that knowingly falsifies information
can not be trusted and should not be used as a source.
At least you cited where you got your crap from... there is no way to accurately calculate which breeds attack/bite/kill people for multiple reasons. 1) hospitals dont keep record of what breed of dog victims are bit by. 2) media only tells us when a so called dangerous dog attacks. 3) most people cant pick an american pit bull terrier out of a line up. Try it out http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html . If you want some accurate and scientific information on which breeds are most likely to bite check out atts.org. You’ll be supprised on which breeds are more likely to bite.
On a more personal note i have a 9 yr old, 4yr old and 3 yr old “pit bull” all living peacefully with my 2 yr old son. Although I wouldnt leave my baby alone with any dog even a yorkie.
