Just a follow up mrsmith
I went to the host pc and ran a diagnostic test, hoping to find out if the problem was in the router sending out the signal to my other pc. (The one with the adapter)
I don't know if this is why my Vista pc with the usb adapter is dropping the connection but maybe?
"more than one device is performing network address translation"
If this is a problem .. How would I go about fixing it?

You may not have successfully uninstalled the adapter before reinstalling it.
Uninstall the adapter, then turn off the computer and remove the physical adapter. Turn the computer back on and check that it is indeed uninstalled and also not in Device Manager (uninstall it again if neccessary), then install it again per directions.
I’ve had trouble uninstalling one and had similar symptoms.
Good luck. Wasn’t picking on you I just wanted to ask someone that question one day. We enjoy the help threads, have all “been there”.
