What movie do you love that most people never heard of or seen? Mine is a movie called "Evenhand". I first saw it on IFC, then ordered a copy from Amazon. It is about two policemen in a small Texas town. One is meek and kind while the other is hard. They form a unlikley friendship. It is more plot driven, with little violence. The writing is pretty good.

Agreed,84 Charing Cross Road, along with Shadowland (story of CS Lewis’s marriage) with QB VII, and Whales of August thrown in for good measure.

I might have confused "White Line Fever" with "2 Lane Blacktop" but they're both good. I hate Peter Fonda's politics, but I seem to like all of his movies. "Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" is a can't miss.

A couple of other gems: Box of Moonlight with Sam Rockwell (not sure why this guy never hit the big time, he's great). Graveyard of the Fireflies. I'm usually not a fan of Japanese animated films, but this one will tear your heart out.

I also liked "By the Dawn's Early Light". One of the freakiest endings ever.

Loved James Earl Jones in that.

Catherine Marshall let me ‘help’ [I was about 8 or 10 years old at the time] record the pastor’s [after Peter Marshall’s death - a different pastor] sermons on a wire reel to reel recorder.

Here's one that's so obscure that even I don't know the name of it. It's a brit crime movie, black and white, circa 1960s, and the only scene I can remember is one where motorcycle police are searching for the 'hero' and riding slowly through sheets of laundry hung out to dry in a courtyard: It's mesmerizing to watch. I remember the whole movie was very well done noir.

If anyone can put a name to it I'd be grateful.

I don’t know if Serial is available on DVD. I looked for it years ago and couldn’t find it. Had to buy Americathon on VHS. It’s so ironic, where a Native American billionaire ends up being the hero.

There is a feature on IMDB, where you describe a scene you remember, but don’t know the name of the movie. It’s worked for me on many occasions. A movie that scared the bejeezus out of me as a child I found out was “Tales From the Crypt”, 1972, with Peter Cushing. What the hell were my parents thinking taking me to that when I was little?

I agree on “Report To The Commissioner”

I liked “3 days of the Condor” with Robert Redford. I’m not sure if it’s considered obscure. About time for a remake if not.

You know what I’d like to see?
A sequel to “Ferris Buehler’s Day Off” AND “Risky Business” — both kids end up at the same college, get in trouble, and get out of trouble with similar iconoclastic shenanigans.

That is fascinating.

The sermon which is on the DVD had Peter Marshall describing Christ’s carrying the cross from start to Golgotha. The description was so vivid, one could visualize the journey.

Their Son also became a prominent minister. I am not sure the movie even mentioned it but it was clearly the Presbyterian church.

IIRC, those 2 lions were genetically different, basically males without manes or something like that. I guess I like Val Kilmer films.
