I was on jury panel here in Knoxville, TN a couple of years ago in a murder case where the defendant (Rat Boy, as I silently named him) and his girl friend conspired to murder her parents. Unfotunately, the state did not go for the death penalty. Rat Boy had exactly the same sunken eyed look as Casey, with deep dark circles around his eyes. You could just see that the Devil had taken his soul and replaced it with pure evil. The same appears to be true of Casey.
In case you’re curious, I survived two rounds of challenges, but was preemptorily challenged on the third round and dismissed. The defense did a good job of mind reading, especially because they never asked me any questions.
You have to go check it out. I was just over there and the reporters are saying the defense is going to move for a new "non death qualified" jury. Judge Perry came out in his robes and handed two big envelopes to the attorneys. (A motion?) Ann Finnell is here for the defense to ask the court to dismiss this jury, the reporter says, based on last week's Florida court decision. Supposedly an excellent lawyer.
I was actually on a jury for a double murder trial a few years ago, here in Palm Beach County. The defendant was very snarky and “smart-alec” looking (sort of like Casey) until he heard our verdict.
Then he broke down like a baby.
To this day, I don’t know if he was really over-confident, or what. Because he acted very confident - almost arrogant. But the defense had NO CASE. There was no way this guy was going to be found not guilty.
The whole thing was quite an experience.
Casey's eyes are dead as door nails. But I've noticed that her mother's eyes are somewhat dead, too. In a different way, if you know what I mean.
