Jane Fonda: "The Truth About My Trip To Hanoi"
JaneFonda.com ^ | July 22, 2011 | Jane Fonda

Posted on 07/22/2011 11:01:03 PM PDT by Keltik

It is unconscionable that extremist groups circulate letters which accuse me of horrific things, saying that I am a traitor, that POWs in Hanoi were tied up and in chains and marched passed me while I spat at them and called them ‘baby killers. These letters also say that when the POWs were brought into the room for a meeting I had with them, we shook hands and they passed me tiny slips of paper on which they had written their social security numbers. Supposedly, this was so that I could bring back proof to the U.S. military that they were alive. The story goes on to say that I handed these slips of paper over to the North Vietnamese guards and, as a result, at least one of the men was tortured to death.

That these stories could be given credence shows how little people know of the realities in North Vietnam prisons at the time. The U.S. government and the POW families didn’t need me to tell them who the prisoners were. They had all their names. Moreover, according to even the most hardcore senior officers, torture stopped late in 1969, two and a half years before I got there. And, most importantly, I would never say such things to our servicemen, whom I respect, whether or not I agree with the mission they have been sent to perform, which is not of their choosing.

But these lies have circulated for almost forty years, continually reopening the wound of the Vietnam War and causing pain to families of American servicemen. The lies distort the truth of why I went to North Vietnam and they perpetuate the myth that being anti-war means being anti-soldier.

No sincere apology contains the words “may have”.

As others have said, she said what she said and she did what she did, so reap what you sow.

If she has a legitimate “complaint” it would be that although there were many, many traitors in that period - she has become the symbol of the actions and words of many.

The fact that she went farther than others (actually going to NV) and the fact that she was already a powerful media symbol, the particular way she went about it is why this has occurred.

It’s not a lot different than Barry Bonds being a symbol for the steroid era in baseball. Which is not to directly compare BB to JF. But it is to point out that BB was not the only one to use steroids, but if you say “Quick who benefited from steroids” BB is who would most immediately come to mind and if you were to write a biography of BB there would be multiple chapters related to steroids and the aftermath.

Bill Clinton, John Kerry, Donald Sutherland, Bill Ayres and many, many others did horrible things back then. And yes, this has been pointed out multiple times. But for mostly understandable reasons it is Hanoi Jane around whom the association is strongest.

And, of course, aside from people like say David Horowitz, no one of these people has ever really apologized (in a meaningful way) with Hanoi Jane included.

So if she has a point - it’s that “I was a traitorous POS but I wasn’t the only one - just the most visible”.

But, I admit, it’s a fine point, and she’s never going to say that anyway. So, for practical purposes, she, like BB is going to remain a symbol of a shameful era.

From that WONDERFUL Gathering of Eagles in 2007...it warmed my heart! Here is an idea-we will get this entire crowd, offer free kegs of beer for all, and wash away good old Hanoi Jane!

” On November 21, 1970 she told a University of Michigan audience of some two thousand students, “If you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would some day become communist.” At Duke University in North Carolina she repeated what she had said in Michigan, adding “I, a socialist, think that we should strive toward a socialist society, all the way to communism. “ Washington Times July 7, 2000”

"...B/C we never expose communist/progressives and their agendas on FR."

What's to expose? The truth has been known for years who this BITCH is and what's she's done!

This post just provides more of the same that is better dead than read!

I’m surprised, mine was up w/in minutes and my *replies* were posted immediately...that’s not to say that they will not get flagged and deleted as the day progresses. I doubt if the lie-berals who posted will go back and look at their comments [and some of my replies] on the site at any future date.

So far, I’m the only dissenting voice over there. WOO HOO!

Thank you for that link. That is what needs to be circulated instead of that stupid email about slips of paper being palmed to the Hanoi Ho.

Jane, just go away, will you.

There is one thing that happened while in North Vietnam that I will regret to my dying day— I allowed myself to be photographed on a Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun.

LOL! I love it.

She doesn't regret SITTING on the anti-aircraft gun. She regrets that she allowed a picture of her sitting on the anti-aircraft gun to be taken!

Makes it kind of hard to deny, doesn't it, Jane.

Thank goodness you had the wherewithal to not allow pictures of you spitting on American POWSs as they were marched in front of you in chains.

I noticed that when I read it earlier. I can't believe she actually put it in writing. IMO it's worthy of a fresh new controversy of its own, but she is probably spared by the fact that few people will read that far into her post.

She tries to cover it with this:

I relay this not to minimize the hardships that the POWs endured, nor to excuse it– but to attempt belatedly to restore a greater depth of insight into the entire POW experience with their captors.

The problem is that its way too obvious that minimizing and excusing is exactly what she is doing, for the sake of rationalizing what she did.

She went to show suport for opposition to the war. Period.

She got what she wanted and should suffer the consequences. Her actions were Treason and she should have been prosecuted for it.

She was an extreme anti-war leftist.

The SOBs are anything but anti-war. They are anti-US military, pro-revolution. They never met a leftist uprising they didn't support. They worship monsters like Mao, Stalin and Castro. Hard to be "anti-war" with heroes like these.

Re: John F(onda) Kerry

"...if the United States were to set a date for withdrawal the prisoners of war would be returned."-J.F. Kerry

"Under questioning from the Committee, Kerry referred to the democratically elected government of South Vietnam -- our allies -- as a "dictatorial regime, the Thieu-Ky-Khiem regime," while respectfully calling the North Vietnamese communist regime we were fighting by its oxymoronic official name, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and the murderous Viet Cong's political arm by their preferred "Provisional Revolutionary Government.":

June, 1970 -- Kerry joins Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW), a national veterans group that is part of the Peoples Coalition for Peace and Justice. The PCPJ is a broad coalition of local and national organizations, including the Communist Party, USA, "committed to conducting demonstrations aimed at ending the war in Indochina, and poverty, racism and injustice at home." The VVAW, CCI and PCPJ all have headquarters at 156 Fifth Avenue in New York City. VVAW Executive Secretary Al Hubbard, a former Black Panther, is also on the coordinating committee of the PCPJ. Hubbard soon appoints Kerry to the VVAW's Executive Committee, bypassing the normal election process.

Fact: The Black Panthers were revolutionary communists...

From the Maoist Internationist Movement:
[1960s/original] Black Panther Party [BPP] Archives
From the article: REVOLUTIONARY HEROS

"On May 1st, May Day [1969], the day of the gigantic Free Huey rally, two of Alioto's top executioners vamped on the brothers from the Brown Community who were attending to their own affairs. These brothers, who are endowed with the revolutionary spirit of the Black Panther Party defended themselves from the racist pig gestapo [i.e., the police].

Pig Joseph Brodnik received his just reward with a big hole in the chest. Pig Paul McGoran got his in the mouth which was not quite enough to off him.

The revolutionary brothers escaped the huge swarm of pigs with dogs, mace, tanks and helicopters, proving once again that "the spirit of the people is greater than the man's technology."

To these brothers the revolutionary people of racist America want to say, by your revolutionary deed you are heroes, and that you are always welcome to our camp."

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:

"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."

John Kerry and the VVAW--Hanoi's American Puppets?
"Two recently discovered documents captured from the Vietnamese communists during the Vietnam War strongly support the contention that a close link existed between the Hanoi regime and the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) while John Kerry served as the group's leading national spokesman."

Okay, I’m on her web site. Saw you post. Amazing, after all this time how many people are still affected by the acid they dropped in the 1960’s. Just proves how gullible liberals are.
