Marvel Comics reveals the new Spider Man is black - and he could be gay in the future

He started life as a white science geek living with his uncle.

But now to reflect the racial changes in America Spider Man has been given a makeover - as a half black half Latino teen.

Miles Morales has replaced Peter Parker as the face behind the famous webbed mask, Marvel Comics has revealed.

In the latest edition of the Ultimate Fallout series he pulls back the disguise and shows his face for the first time.

Fans will have to wait until the official Spider Man relaunch next month to find out how he came to be the superhero.

But another surprise could be in the pipeline after his creators said that in the future they would not rule out making him gay.

Major League Baseball teams scrambled to sign him, thinking that he was Dominican.

Marvel's multiverse isn't like the old DC multiverse. This is a different comic line and I don't think (so far) that there have been any crossovers. It's mostly all reboot stuff.

About the only rebooted character of any consequence is the reboot of Nick Fury, formerly of the Howling Commandos during WWII and an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the years after, was modeled by the writer and artist after Samuel L. Jackson. Take a wild guess who they got to play him in the movies.

Btw, this incarnation of Fury goes back about a decade. There were direct-to-video cartoons featuring him, along with a Capt America who had been frozen for 60 years instead of just 20.

There is lack of real superheroes. Now is the time to create one!

"'We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker."

You sure about that? Name identification is HUGE in comic bookland.

Maybe if the SM's sort of had similar names. Let's see, the new SM is gay right. Peter Parker is going to be killed off. Hmmm-HEY! How about the new SM is named Peter Puffer?

He11, that'd be a natural!

Remember Black Lightning from the 70's? Even as a kid I thought it was patronizing. And boring.

Off the subject a bit, but I heard a bit of trivia. DC comic heroes live in fictional cities (Gotham City, Metropolis, etc.), Marvel superheroes live in "real" ones.

Exception to the rule: I saw a homeless guy in Seattle wearing a Superman suit.

As if their sales weren’t in the tank already.

Bye-bye, comics I once knew.

You didn’t miss much. Black Lightning didn’t even have “cool” powers. I remember one classic issue of Justice League where Batman invites BL into the JLA. BL says he “won’t join that honkey outfit!”

Spiderman is Peter Parker.

Anyone else is just a copycat.

Mary Jane will not be amused.

"MJ" will take on a whole new persona if Spidey ends up gay. Perhaps the object of his desire would be this MJ ...

I thought Spiderman was gay already:

I wonder if Marvel has bothered to think of everything they're going to lose from merchandising if they overtly homosexualize Spiderman.

I don’t think they care. Oh well, good way to destroy a franchise.

Yawnsville.

Wake me up when they do something edgy like make him a polygamist.
